and the subs are more audible outside the car than they are inside:bs: should i just remove the insulation behind the rear seat? have any of you sound system guyes had that problem? this is realy annoying.

Ive had that problem with any speakers Ive put in the trunk. Im guessing its because it only has the little bit of sheet metal to travel through to reach outside the car but inside its got to go through the seat and carpeting and so forth about about the only solution I could think of is make it so less things are between you and the speakers then there are between outside and the speakers. Would be easier and look more stock if you just put a higher wattage system to the trunk and just smile when you know the people outside can REALLY hear the music :D

The problem you are haveing is cancelation. Open you trunk and see if it gets louder. If so you need to seal the front of the subs to the interior of the car. That way the sound waves don't bounce around in the trunk and canel each other out. I had this same problem in my T-bird, cougar, and tempo. I've also had several buddies that have had this problem. You won't belive the difference it will make.

depending on the subs as well, i have seen people put ports in the deck and that helped....

i have a 1600 watt amp and 2 500 watt subs. i dont think i want to go much bigger.

Some sound deadening might help out too. In my car I have applied deadener to most of the trunk (except for the lid), beneath the rear seats, under the carpet, and on both doors. Inside my car my bass sounds loud and clear with no rattles, yet when you step outside you can hardly hear the bass. If it wasnt for my rattling trunk lid you'd hardly know I have a sub. You might be losing a lot of your noise through rattling panels and vibration. The bass is traveling outside of the car, rather than staying inside.

I have the same problem as BIGmeat15071. I however have not applied any deadener whatsoever. I could barely ever hear my subs outside of the car. oh well. They arent back in yet, so I get to have fun playing with them.

Something that might help until you get some sound deadener applied, is to face your subs to the rear, thereby giving some "reflection" back to the front, I had the problem you describe, and if I had the windows up, the bass would hardly hit at all, but if you opened both doors, it was unbearable loud...sisnce I couldn't drive around with my doors open, I went to a sealed box, and faced mine rear, made a helluva load of difference.
I still need some dampener in the trunk area though, then again, I may take all the stereo wiring out, carpet etc, for weight savings.
I want an 11 second 351w Tbird, and with all the flab these cars have
(especially an '88) I got some work to do...

i turned them around and it realy seemed to help alot. im going to get some dynomat and do my entire trunk but it will probably be a while b4 i can do it.
