4.6 PI in a 1994 couger

I have a 1994 XR7 that my mechanic said had a 1995 crown vic PI in it. I bought the car used and at 98k had a tune up done on it.The car is fast. I have 150k+ on it now. Runs fine but i was thinking about putting a kennbell supercharger on it and maybe replacing the computor with one from a 1995 crown vic. police car. Just too see what would happen. Thoughts ?

When will people learn... ThunderChicken will back me up on this.  Police car or no police car, the engines are the same.  PI stands for Performance Improved which came out in what... 01 or so?  By '95 PI, I must assume you mean a '95 Police Car.  Same 4.6 OHC V8 as the civillian models of Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Town Car.  From 92 and up police cars had the very same engine as civilian models.  Same engine.  Not from a mustang, not a cobra, same.

The only differences in the Police Package (P71) are related to suspension, electronics, and other accessories.

Even the brand new PI Crown Vic Interceptors are rated at 240 horses.  Not too far from the 215 rating of a '94 4.6.  The Kenne Bell kit is the same for '94-98 motors.  You can get 2 different kits, one with an intercooler one without.  If your making that large of an investment I'd suggest the intercooler.

First let me thank everyone who responded to my question. Sorry about taking so long to respond. This past week has been busy to say the least. What i was trying to find out is if I put a kennbell on the engine and don't do anything else, will the engine hold up? I have read whear a kennbell was put on a 4.6 and it doubled the HP and TQ and nothing else was done to the engine. I have got a 95 Crown Vic Police computor mod. Will this change the engine settings,etc...? When it comes to normal carb engines, I can build a really screaming machine. But when it comes to computors, i'm behind the times. Warning this is what happens when you have babies, You have no time for your toys.

I think maybe the only benefit you can gain with a Police computer (if such a thing exists) is a higher, or removed speed limiter.

Thanks for the response. I got the computor from a wrecked police car. The reason was the mech. who did the tune up for me said the computor settings for the engine were okay but i could do better with a computor from a 95 crown vic police car. He said this would change the engine settings and make it run better, smoother etc..

My only thought on putting a supercharger on the stock Cougar 4.6 is.....KABOOOM!  :grinno:  :slap:

To the best of my knowledge, there is no bolt-on supercharger kit for a 94-95 MN-12 4.6.  Well, one that doesn't require the owner to hunt down 96 and up equipment first.

On a police car,it has different rear gears, and some have chips for a higher top end,but the engines are the same.

Thank You All again. I had a bad week last week. The front of the car is now in the passenger seat. The car is considered totaled but it really needs a new hood, bumper, both front quarters, and all those other little things. I'm keeping the car. Don't yet know if i'll strip it and put my 460 in it for the drag strip or just part it out. The drivetrain is still good and I have 3 other vehicals I could possiably put it in. I went to a 4.6 web site and found that superford mag. did a 4.6 build on a stock 4.6. Someday a may play toy with this idea. But for now i have 4 projects to complete. If I :brick:  can figure out how to post some pictures of the crash I will.
