Duel of trucks.... March 15, 2006, 04:46:27 PM The saturday im going to see some drag racing (drag racing is BAD) and ill put some money in one of two races (putting money in races is even bad). One is a normal race from a guy i know, but another is a pretty good race; a 93 ford Lightning vs a Chevy 454 SS, not sure what is the year. Im tempted to put my money in the chevy big block, but im with the Ford guy, i guess because im a ford guy, too....Suposedly both trucks are stock, which would be the winner ? (considering both drivers are experienced...) Quote Selected
Duel of trucks.... Reply #1 – March 15, 2006, 04:51:11 PM give us a year for the chevy. I would bet on the lightning if they were really both stock Quote Selected
Duel of trucks.... Reply #2 – March 15, 2006, 04:58:43 PM The 454SS was a failed attempt at a sport truck. It was completely choked off with poorly designed emissions equipment and was never given an opportunity to shine. I would take a Toyota Prius over the 454SS. Quote Selected
Duel of trucks.... Reply #3 – March 15, 2006, 05:32:42 PM depends on your deffinition of "stock".and these must not be "legal" races then if they are bad.. hehe Quote Selected
Duel of trucks.... Reply #4 – March 15, 2006, 05:36:24 PM the 93-95 Lightning boasted 240 horsepower total, and a high-performance suspension with twin I-beams up front, Monroe Formula shock absorbers and front and rear stabilizer bars. It ran 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds with a top-speed of 110 mph.Where the 90 454 SS had 230Hp. It really gets down to weight.454 reg cab short bed weighted in at 3849 where the Lightning weighted is 3886.My guess is the Lightning would beat a 90 454SS, but in 91-98 the 454SS had 255Hp. I would bet that he has a 91 later model there fore the lightning is gonna fall short in the qaurter. Quote Selected
Duel of trucks.... Reply #5 – March 16, 2006, 12:04:21 AM If both trucks are stock, and I mean stock, the lightning should beat the chevy off the line every time, usually coming down to driver skill, but the advantage is with the Lightning; ie weight, less engine mass, better suspension, etc.The 454SS was basically a reg. cab, shortbed 2wd half ton with a big block dropped in.The Lightning was actually designed with sportiness in mind.I've rode in, and driven both quite a bit, and stock for stock, the lightning is, for no better comparison, like a TC to a sport...It outhandles, and nearly outpowers (with 100 less cubes, no less), and even has a better ride than the Chevy offering.Another thing is, look how long the Lightning lasted, to the 454SS...:D Now, I'm not knocking the Chevy by any means, and I'm not being biased (for once) This is straight, personal experience speaking...We even raced the trucks once, but I won't use that, as the guy in the chevy dropped the hammer right off, instead of finnessing the go pedal, needless to say, he never came close to the Ford, and then we had to split. These were both his trucks, the Chevy got totalled by a drunk guy while it was parked, and he sold the Lightning, him.. Duel of trucks.... Reply #6 – March 20, 2006, 02:25:39 PM Well, you were right, the lightning won 2 of 3, but was very close the 454 ss. I guess the SS was in pretty good shape, because this truck jumped first every time, but the lightning catched the 454 in 6 o7 seconds. Maybe the drivers.. Quote Selected
