wheel help

is 225/35/19 a bad size tire to stick my 87 tbird on . the average weight of the tbird is between 3000 and 3500 lbs, will the sidewall of those tires be to small causeing the rims to split from the weight, and or will they just get mangled over every pothole? or is a 225/40/18 more reasonable size on the tires? how much of a difference does the 40 make compared to the 35

definitely you will blow a tire that size if you hit a hard enough pothole. The bird as you know ways alot. I would definitly go with the 40 series tire for the added ride comfort that it gives over the 35 as well as blowout issues. secondly you have 4 lug set up right if so where did you find 19's for it let me know.

here are 2 of them on tires.com that are for the 4 bolt 108mm pattern:

you may actually have to lift your car to put 19's on your car and have some decent tire

have fun with that
It's Gumby's fault.

the problem is the 4 bolt 108mm pattern is not popular on cars, so it's hard finding rims, let alone 19 inch, i'm sure if you like gun metal you'll find plenty or rims for our patterns in size 17 or so, but they don't make too many large rims for our patterns.

I think the greater problem here is that you're asking us for help and opinions on something that most of us here not only dislike, but often make fun of openly.. and then you're getting frustrated because it's hard for people here to give an answer with the proverbial straight face.

Think of it kinda like going to a gun-owners forum and asking them how to get in contact with Michael Moore. :giggle:

I'm not trying to flame you by telling you this.. so please don't fire up another argument over this.. but please keep this in mind when you're asking us for advice on "rice" stuff. Otherwise you're apt to get extremely frustrated when people keep recommending that you get Mustang wheels.

well, I think it would be quite biased not to help him, I realize it's his car and his so if he wants to do something I think we as a team should help him with solutions, so that way at least we get a taste of both worlds and at least we can't be called up on being biased. And no, I'm in no way shape or form a ricer. I say let him do what he wants, and maybe in the future he'll realise his ways. And if not, whatever, he'll be happy with this crowd and we'll still be here keeping the spirit of the foxes alive, I know I will be.

I'm not saying people shouldn't help him.. I'm saying that he needs to keep in mind that he's asking for advice on stuff that most here (seem to) dislike, otherwise he's bound to get even more frustrated than he is now with the advice he's getting.

you got a point there, however back to the subject, I personally wouldn't go higher then 17 inch rims for these tires, i see alot of cats and birds with 17 inches and i think that is the ideal size for these cars, it's an even ratio and i think it looks great.

lol i understand ur guys point of view, but the problem is i do like rice cars, i would keep my car standard muscle if i could find rims i liked that werent ricer, i dont want chrome or silver, and so far all the cool ones ive found for my car have been just that, its not that i dont agree with you but im also prob alot younger than the ppl posting this stuff, if i could find hot rims that fit my car in gun metal for a descent price that were muscle id go for them but so far all the ones i can afford being a kid in hs are "rice" rims

So find some used Mustang/etc. 16-17" rims that you can sand down and repaint in gunmetal. Redoing rims isn't a monumental task. Hell, the friend that bought my Escort from me even painted little Ford blue ovals in the centercaps of my old alloy wheels.. and he's polishing the rest of the wheels.. what he's done so far looks  good.. better than I'd have ever done with the car.

Or you could try going totally 60s muscle if you wanted to be different.. seems like Corba Rs are the big thing for this type car.. you could buck that trend without going completely Civic. Look in the back of a Summit catalog for ideas.. but I'd recommend not going over 17" x 8" in your choice. Seems to be the concensus maximum size around here. (give or take half an inch or so)

Speaking of gunmetal, I just did the entire underside of my light blue 'Bird (from the bumper strip down) in gunmetal metallic. I like the color.

I agree with bird351, you can just get any pair of rims and do whatever you want with them.. the turbines I have on my cougar I originally bought off ebay for $15 for the set because they were in really rough shape

here's a pic..

and after a bit of sandblasting, sanding, primer and paint.. here's the result:
