What is this?

The guy I bought the car from said he would put this back on, well he hasn't even contacted me about the car and see how it's coming..no biggy.
I have this peice of metal, about 2.5 feet long with like 6 holes for bolts.
what does it go to? i can't figure out what it could be for, it'sa rusty so it must be for outside of the car...engine???

Sorry for the crude drawing, I can't go outside and take a picture because I need to rest because I just had my wisdom teeth removed.

Excuses, excuses :giggle:

I have no idea what that drawing would be of either. It "may" help others by knowing what car you bought, what it came with, etc.

How was the wisdom teeth anyways? You stay awake during the thing? The most annoying part of the whole ordeal is how long it takes to heal. I recommend not eating anything crunchy for at least 3 weeks

It goes underneath the car at the back of the floorpan, around the front of your ler(s).  It's some kinda of structural floorpan support, though mine has been off for a while and my car hasn't fallen apart.  I had to remove it to install dual exhaust.

It is a cheap factory drive shat loop. If it not on there no biggie.
I have removed them on every car I have owned.

I removed it on my  '88 when I installed the duals as well.

I installed duals on mine and I just left it on. I like it because it keeps the exhaust pipes closer to the floor. And believe you me I need the extra ground clearance.

Red arrows = Threaded studs for 10mm nuts.
Green = Pointy "locating" pins.

I've only used it to support the driveshaft while unbolting it so it wouldn't fall on my face.

I think I would put it back on. I saw a woman killed once when the car she was in dropped the DS from the front and it dug into the road, catipulted (sp?) the car and it flipped two or three times. She ended up outside of the car on the ground with the back half of her head blown away.

Her teenage daughter, who was in the back seat was thrown about 500 ft away from the car and knocked out. We were at the site for about an hour before we even knew she was there.

If I couldn't get to original peice back on, due to dual exaust or whatever, I'd make up something to take it's place.

That piece is towards the back, wouldn't do much to hold the front of the shaft up. Pretty flimsy too. :ies:

If it is "a cheap factory drive shaft loop" then I won't drive mine without it...or a "real" replacement.

...just because I've seen/heard of to many people/friends/myself being killed or injured, in my case obivously, in stupid accidents that could have easily been prevented.

If it's safety equipment, use it (or improve it), dont lose it.

If it's indeed just for the driveshaft then I may work up something else unless the place that installs my tailpipes can make the exhaust fit safely closer to the floor.  I don't have any clerance under the car really either, lers se all the time, so maybe reinstalling it would be a good idea.

Actually there are two different braces, the one that drops down can usually clear the exhaust.... :ies:

As far as D/S loop, not hardly..... That little piece of metal ain't gonna hold anything that resembles a flapping drive shaft(well maybe if it falls out while backing into your driveway). The Turbo Coupes do have the passenger side parking brake cable clipped to it, and thats about all I can see its good for.

my thoughts exactly,, if it were intended to be a safety brace to prevent a car from flipping thru mid air and save lives,, then ford needs sued today for neglect in its intended design.
