The 1800 is one of my favourite cars... or rather the 1800ES (wagon) is. I love those frickin' things...

IIRC the 1800E was the first car to use electronic fuel injection. It was troublesome (using early 1970's technology) but it was the first.

I'm gonna have to be a dick and nit-pick here.  I beleive the first car to use EFI was a 1967 VW 411, using Bosch D-Jet.  Then, naturally, a lot of other european cars adopted this, but by that time they might have been using L-Jet.  Can't remember for sure.  (L-Jet was MAF, chew on that for a while...)

Sorry.  Me = :asshole:

You're prolly right - the guy that told me the 1800E was the first just happened to be a Volvo dealer so in his eyes Volvo invented the car :D That's why I added the "IIRC" qualifier. Guess I didn't recall correctly :hick:

...And I believe (again, a qualifier :flip:) the high mileage 1800 is now well over two million miles. He's in the Guiness bokk of world records

BTW, this same friend is in thee doghouse for recommending the POS V70XC that I bought in December...

"IIRC"

haha, well - after years of being active on forums i've still never learned what IIRC means, so theres my :hick:

In the last printed article I read about that Volvo, i think it had logged 1.6 million.  And it looked like brand new, i think he said it had only had one restoration.

Can you imagine driving a car for that long?  And that Volvo, at that?

Considering I've had mine for six weeks and already hate it all to hell after blowing the engine, taking it back four times for oil leaks, having a major clunk in the AWD viscous coupling, and now just tonight replacing the pads & rotors, no I can't imagine driving one for that long...

What about the 1957 'vette?  It had fuel injection.  I'm not sure if it was the first, but it beats the VW so far.

Oh wait, you said electronic, the '57 vette was manual.  Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_injection for some fuel injection history.  It shows 302Fairmont is correct with the VW 411.

I had to google it, I originally thought that it was a '68 Type III - but duh, of course it was the '67 Type IV.

That Wikipedia article mentions Bosch K-Jet (aka CIS) which is the coolest FI system in the world IMO.  So fun to work on - all mechanical, just one wire for the whole system!

I would kill to have a coupe in red with black leather......ALL ORIGINAL OR RESTORED TO ORIGINAL.  No modding on this one.  It would be one of those pleasure vehicles used solely for long drives.  Check THIS one out......It's one of the Jensen models.
