Put Cleveland heads on a Windsor block - best of both worlds (i guess)

I've heard that you can put Cleveland heads on a Windsor with a little help from the machine shop, but I'd rather not do that myself. I think the 351C is almost a perfect engine by its self. Doesn't need any help... my opinion though! lol

The cleveland block has coolant distribution oddities and not-so-competant oiling system, so I'm told.  So, super badass cleveland heads on the more stable Windsor block would be the hot ticket.  But this all speculation, because I dont think I've ever even seen a real Cleveland.  Lots of 400's and M's though!

Put Cleveland heads on a Windsor block and you've got a Boss engine.  The cooling passages need to be messed with but it can be done, there's actually a company that sells Cleveland heads pre-machined with Windsors in mind.  Here's an article:

The cleveland is a great motor but the technology in heads and cams now make unheard of power in the windsor blocks. The 302 i have from a 71 ford that i had rebuilt .030 over, adding Edelbrock RPM intake,600 cfm carb, a somewhat aggresive cam and the AFR heads w/ 1.90 intake and 1.60 exhaust is pulling just under the 360 hp with the stock rods and some good pistons (not forged). Depending if you have the 4v heads or the 2v heads with the cleveland, the 4v are not even close to what a guy wants for street and mild strip use because they make all there power way higher in the rpm range. The 2v head is way more practical for the street as the ports are not nearly as large and can produce more streetable torque. The 4v Cleveland is great for a strip car but not for the street.

Hearing "351 CLEVELAND" strikes fear in the heart of any chevy man.

Well i some what disagree, maybe 20 years ago there was some fear but times and technology have changed. Now they are expensive, hard to find and really IMHO not worth putting the serious money into when you can do so much to a windsor. They have a great rep that makes people worry, but when it gets right down to it they have block cracking problems among the other issues.

All I know is, when the engine was in my old flat bed Ford a few years ago, I thought it was just another engine. But when people asked what engine was in it and I would tell 'em, they would freak! They'd say something like, "You have a cleveland?!?!" After seeing that response more than once, when I decided to get rid of the truck, I pulled the engine out and kept it.

Hmm throw a Cleveland together with readily available ebay parts and your tossing over 300hp on the table. Dude i would so do a Cleveland over a Windsor.

And for gods sake put that into your Tbird!

I dunno about that, my 420 HP 302 is doing fine I think throwing it in the ranchero is the better option.

What did you do to your 302 to get it to 420 hp?
And how come all the cleveland i've seen are carbeurated? I personally prefer fuel injection..

clevelands were all carbed, there 70's or earlier motor's. Before fuel injection.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
