Overload springs for rear? January 15, 2006, 05:56:27 PM Where can I get some kind of overload springs or airbags for the rear of my car that fit inside the stock springs (or something along those lines)?JCWhitney used to have airbags designed to fit inside the stock coils for the thunderbird for $65, and I was gonna get some of those but they apparently don't sell them anymore (they aren't listed on the website). I can't find much of anything else. I'm just looking for something I can put in there, because if I haul 2 other people in the car with me it seems like the rear suspension near bottoms out over every bump. Suggestions? Quote Selected

Overload springs for rear? Reply #4 – January 16, 2006, 12:21:35 AM Get the air bags. Had them on my car they worked great. You can air them up when needed. Then when not in use they don't effect the ride or ride height. Quote Selected
Overload springs for rear? Reply #5 – January 16, 2006, 12:45:34 AM I was gonna get em last year but couldn't spare the funds due to trying to finish my new engine...I will definitely get them this year. Although Summit's website says the ship date for them is Feb. 7th? sheesh...guess I might as well wait a little while to order. Quote Selected
Overload springs for rear? Reply #6 – January 17, 2006, 11:16:30 PM Sorry for my stupid question....Now since we are talking about airride shocks. My shocks in the rear of my cougar are completely worthless at this point. Clanks and clunks and sags alot whenever I take off. Now if I were to purchase these air shocks, would the car benefit if I keep them tight from a launching standpoint? Since I'm getting classic plates on her this month or so she will only be out once a week. And that once a week I hope to run a few slow imports. Having that saggy backend won't help matters. Especially when I need it to be tight back there. I'm not real good when it comes to suspension and what's available. Any help would be cool since this topic came up. Quote Selected
Overload springs for rear? Reply #7 – January 18, 2006, 12:34:15 AM We are talking about airbags that go inside the coil springs in the rear. Not an air shock.I have a used set of the bags that I took out of my car when I converted it over to AirRide. Quote Selected

Overload springs for rear? Reply #10 – January 20, 2006, 12:42:06 AM If it's all still in nice shape, that's fine with me...Just out of curiosity...are the airbags red, or blue? The ones JCWhitney shows are red, but the ones summit shows are blue. Quote Selected
Overload springs for rear? Reply #11 – January 20, 2006, 02:20:21 AM Steve, air shocks are junk. I'd avoid them like the plague if I were you. Unless you really like the 'stinkbug' stance where the ass end is way up in the aid, and you really don't mind losing all traction around corners and ride comfort, don't get 'em. I used 'em for a while on my '84 LTD (fox chassis also) and it was a mistake. They usually end up leaking after a few months anyway. I'd only reccomend them if you were planning on towing a trailer or something of that nature. Quote Selected
