I know nothing about audio components.

So basically, I am a newbie when it comes to audio parts. Here is what I want.

I am building a "carputer", over all , will probably be similar to baxo's, minus min will be a windows pc. I want it to have surround sound and good low to mid bass. Basically, alot of the music that I listen to, has either really high, or really low bass, so I want to be able to hit all bass sectrums. What I did have planned was two 8"s a 10" and a 12"

As far as the interior speakers go, I wanted to have 3 6x9's in the back deck, two in the doors,if plauseable, 3.5's in the dash, and possibly two 6's for midbass.

Tell me where I am going wrong, I want to know how to make the best sound quality.

I am sorry for the non specific question. Please bear with me

I know how to wire and install amps, so I know alittlebit. thanks for any help

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I think, that an 8", a 10" and a 12" would work. 6 1/2s will fit the doors I think. Mine will. Everything sounds good to me. I would put bass blockers on the 3.5s and the 6 1/2s. The 6x9s bass block just for mid bass. Thats what I plan to do.

great thing about computers, is that the bass is already taken out. they already have a channel seperat just for bass. So I shouldnt need any bass blocker, maybe some high crossovers for the 3.5's but I think that should do. I was told that 3-5 6x9's is just rediculous, and will not give good sound.

Ok lets start off with the bass part. Id go with 2 10's or 2 12's. The right 10 or 12" sub in the correct box will give you a nice deep bass response as well as the upper bass notes you are looking for. There is no need for 8,10 and 12's. in my experience mixing sizes is more a hinderance than anything. they would have to all be seperatly amplified and not as efficeient as the 2 10's or 12's.

Ok now to the MID or MIDBASS speakers. Why 3 6x9's?? If you are wanting a surround setup in the car that will sound great go with matching speakers. I would sway away from oval speakers. If it were  me i would go with 5 matching 6.5 speakers. That would put 2 in the doors, 2 in the rear deck, and one somewhere in the front center. You can use coaxial speakers or components. the differance is the coax speakers have the tweeters mounted to them and components are seperate with seperate crossovers. i would also put the same amount of power to each speaker

I have been in the car audio stuff for 10 or so years and actually doing it for a living for 5 years. If you need any help PM me

hmm, five 6.5's. I havent really thought of that at all. That sounds like a very good idea. It would fit in the doors, should fit in the rear deck fine, And it would be really easy to power them all at the same level.

As far as the center channel, anyone have any ideas on this? I was planning on just raising or switching out the 3rd brake light, I think that is the only way to go. I cant figure out a way to make a good front channel, and adding it to the back might not work too well.

I also plan on using amps to power every single speaker, which should take alot of the guess work out.

As far as the bass, I may just go the way of 2 10's, but I want to build them into the sidewells of the trunk by fiberglassing my own enclosers.that way I can still get a spare tire in there, and maybe some tools.

well if you are going to be using it as a 5.1 setup then you need the center in the front as that is where most of the sounds will come from. the rest is for the surround effect. you don't have to get seperate amps for all the speaker. there are 5 channel amps out there or you could find a 4 channel amp (example 4x100) and a 2 channel (2x50) and bridge the 2 channel to a 1x100

The best way to add bass to your car and keep the space is to goo free air.  You wouldn't need a box that way but you would need to seal  the truck of your car from the interior. I did this by removeing all of the rear interior trim. Then I removed the rear deck support "drilled out the spot welds" THen using  2 layers of 3/4" plywood  I made a sub board and mounted it in the big hole between the trunk and the interior.  I screwed it to the car then fiberglassed it in and used the fidglass to seal up the read deck. I also used expand foam to seal up the recessed areas in the sides between the wheel well and the outer fender. I've got 2 10" in the reardeck and 2 12" in the lower area. It sounds great nice tight bass and lots of it.  Plus I have plenty of truck space.

that front speaker, if your not useing that light sensor in your car on the dash, you might be able to cut out that hole bigger and make something costome. im pretty sure theirs not much under their except some ducting for the vents. i know that clock dosnt go back far... might be worth a shot.

Yeah thats what I was planning actually! that or the clock.

ahh good idea, think the most i'd do is maybe a mp3 player in their, i cant multitask when i drive lol, a computer wouldnt be to good for me while i drive :p

Well if you decide to put the computer screen where the clock is you'll be able to get rid of the two vents too which will free up a LOT of space behind the screen if you remove the vent ducts. Then if you have a storage tray above your radio right now, you can customize that for re-located vents.

Then taht way you have a LOT of room hidden right in the middle of the dash ;) Your biggest worry at that point would be the magnet of the speaker interfering with the monitor.

how does the magnet affect an lcd? I also thought about just putting the screen on the sterring wheel, exept the wires and what not, but I dont think it will be that big of a deal. I dunno, I am gonna have to get the parts first before I decide for sure. Also I decided to go the way of a fullsized motherboard.
