Sumping a gas tank November 10, 2005, 12:01:05 AM What procedures are needed to weld sump a gas tank? I have a wide variety of tools and an awesome welder but I have never welded a gas tank and am kinda nervous on doing it.Any info from someone who has done it would greatly be appreicated. Sumping a gas tank Reply #1 – November 10, 2005, 01:19:40 PM Everthing I have read about it that you dont weld a used tank. But if you absolutely have to, weld it with water in it. Just leave the part you are welding uncovered or youll never get any heat there. Quote Selected
