For those who've changed a torque converter

In the next few days I'll be putting my newly rebuilt engine back in the car :D To that end I just tried putting on my new torque converter. Filled it with fluid, the old one slipped off easy, but I wasn't prepared to deal with that wretched seal

Being that it's around the shaft I can't get any leverage on the blasted thing and attempts to hook it and yank it out just leave me with bruises. What's a good way to do this?

Yes. The little silver and orange seal that rings the input shaft.

ive always used a seal puller. or a screwdriver

I guess I'll try to find a seal puller tomorrow. The screwdrivers I have onhand are either too short or too long to get leverage in that space.

Once I had the puller I got the seal off in 2 seconds. Thanks. One more little dilemma though. The instructions called for 13/16" of clearance between the bellhousing front and the base of the drive stud on the converter. Unfortunately I measured from the top of the stud by accident, thought the thing wasn't on far enough, and kept shoving and turning and even tapping with a hammer 3 or 4 times. By the time I realized my mistake the converter was still turning freely but....it won't come off. Probably those taps with the hammer sealed it on good. I'd be content to leave it on but I want to know, is it possible I've really damaged the converter or transmission?

the converter should drop 3 times as you seat it . it will sit kinda loose due to the flywheel centers it. make sure you lubricated the seal with some white lube were it meets the converter and put some fluid in the converter also that keeps it from burning up when ypu start it

I'm pretty sure it did click 3 times, I'm not worried about it not engaging properly, more about it being on too tight if that's possible. Try as I might I can't yank it off. I think it still wiggles around just a bit so hopefully it will engage to the flexplate. And I put a litre of fluid in it. Guess I'll hope for the best.

wow, cant pull it off? maybe the fit inside were the shaft rides is tight? as long as it is seated i wouldnt worry to much. as long as it turns free you should be a-ok
