pondering the mid-block 335 series

anyone think a 400 m would be a worthwile swap into a fox bird?
That 400 ft. pounds at 2200 rpm's for a stock '71 400 sounds nice.
The 4 inches of stroke and canted valve heads would make a great
starting point for an awsome motor.
        Anyone know what to use for motor mounts? possibily 460 swap pieces and a '83 to '86 t-bird k- member.Customs headers would be needed as i have not seen them specific for a fox/cleavland swap.
        One of my friends has a '78 f250 4x4 with a 400m, 4 on the floor and 4.10s and that thing torques like nothing I've ever felt before. He has burned all four tires  and gets  em' in first and second (on pavment) and he has 35 inch all terrains on it.

You have to remember the '71 figures are for gross torque, not net as used today(it actually changed in '72).

The 400s don't have much of a following because... Like the 351M it is a tall block Cleveland that is nearly as heavy and large as a 460. Also they use the 460 bell pattern(and mtr mts) so a AOD or other small block tranny won't bolt up. That said, yes they can be built to make some really decent power, but so can a 351W with a 393/408/416/427 stroker kit(and its a lot smaller and lighter).

For my own car a stroker 302 will be my best bet, and easiest to do. I just would like to do some true hot- rod type swap like that one day, and preferably with a big ford in a fox platform car. I think  i would like to see an FE series in a fox ford... thats a heavy ass block, but it would be unique.

They are actually lighter than the 429/460...

Wow... lighter than a 385 series block.. thats cool, though i was thinking that with the 385 series having more modern thin wall casting techniques and no skirt around the main caps they would be lighter...
