86' Cougar Speedometer

Hi all, I am sure glad to find this forum.
I have an 86' Cougar with a speedometer problem. It is the digital type, and does light up, as I replaced all the bulbs in the dash.
But it just lights up a solid green and does not display any numbers on speedo or total milage, all other gauges are buttstuffog type and they work OK.
Any ideas as to what to look for?

It almost seems like these things operate in some top secret mode, I can find almost no info, except high repair prices.
And speeding tickets are no fun.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

It could be the ignition switch? when mine was loose it did some really funny things.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I don't notice anything odd about the ignition switch, and moving it or jiggleing it does not change anything. It just does not display anything but a green background, not even zero at standstill.
