For 1986 cougar xr7 5 speed 2.3turbo vin w im looking to change our motor mounts . Last year I put in new poly mounts. The ride is terrible shakes shimmer even at idol.Mount were put in by a professional , after he told me they not good even after many adjustments. Whats is a good direct fit for my car. Is the stock mounts hydraulic or solid mounts. What are a good performance direct fit brand.Car is a street mod not for racing just weekend nice weather driving.

go over to rock auto and order either type.

you may have another issue though if its not firing right.

tell your mech he can pull the codes or you can with just a paper clip or a test light.

What mounts did you install? Regardless, poly are going to transmit more vibrations than the big stock gumballs. Especially on a 2.3T.

Did you save the old motor mounts, especially the bracketry? On the 86-88 you can just replace the isolators.

RockAuto can be kind of screwy on things like this.

They show squat for 86-88 2.3 cars, but plenty for the MN-12 cars, which use the same isolators. You could use any of the mounts listed ROCKAUTO LINK HERE with the stock brackets.

no, just look under all engine types for 83-88 birds and cougs.
plenty of them on hand under v8 engines

Wasnt 86 the transition year for motor mounts, from the block type to the pedestal ones?
I dont know about the 2.3 ones but my original mounts on my 3.8 v6 86 tbird were the hydraulic pedestal type. When i replaced them with the only available replacement, solid type, the motor shook and the car vibrated thru the steering wheel for months afterwards.

86 was the first year for the pedestal mounts. ALL TBirds/Cougars/Mk7s switched to that style mount. Regardless of engine.

The RA link I posted in my last post has both hydraulic and solid mounts listed.

Did you read any of the other posts? You never responded to the questions. You just basically repeated your original post.

Do you have your old stock mounts? If not, you're going to need to find a set of used stock 86-88 mounts for the brackets and then but some isolators like in the RockAuto link I posted above? It has SEVERAL options of isolators. The engine type doesn't matter, as ALL of the isolators are the same from 86-97.

I think he is actually just asking if the originals were solid or hydraulic, which im guessing means he doesnt still have the originals handy.
I dont know about the 2.3l ones but my 3.8 v6 originals were hydraulic.
If the isolators are all the same i would just pick up the hydraulic ones since they are available.

If he doesn't have the original brackets, new isolators aren't going to help. Which was another reason I asked what poly mounts he used, as I'm not aware of any drop-in poly isolators for the stock-type brackets on the car.

As far as "performance" stock type isolators, there really isn't anything. You have to give up some strength to get a smooth feeling in the cabin. I edited my post with the RA link so it could be more easily picked out. The solids are probably the stronger of the two, but give up a bit of smoothness.

If you still have stock brackets, pick out a set of isolators and move on with things.

I chand out to poly mounts they suck nosey shake , I want to change to stock hydraulic mounts ? I don’t have the stock pedistals anymore. What do I do can I buy pedistals along with the mounts? Help
