engine sputtering....??

last weekend I was out for a drive on the highway and unfortunatly my timing belt broke on my TC.  we drug it home and put it back together and now it acts like it isnt in time,  is there a proper way to time a 4 cylinder?  this is the first one I have ever had all of my other cars had V8's so I know nothing about them. please help!

We need a write up on this.  I dont own a TC but to answer your question...........

Yes there is a proper way to put the cam in time to the crank and dizzy.

you dont just put the belt back on so in short,,,,,,,,,,,

You just found your problem which is the hardest part to troubleshooting.

Its going to be as simple as aligning the cam and crank just right using the three marks also.

I know about the timing marks on the cam and crank, but I didnt see one on the dist. pully cam and crank are inline...time to invest in a timing light maybe?

well today, driving home on the highway again.. engine started kicking and lost power and now it makes a nice tapping sound from the top end and misses...  thinking I might of thrown a cam follower.  anyone have this problem before?  I thought I read about it somewhere but I couldnt find it in the search. sorry if this is a repost :sorry:

solved.....    found a bolt holding my intake valve open on #1 cylinder.  what happened was whenI changed valve cover gaskets I dropped a bolt and I didnt know at the time where it had gone.  so what I figured was that it bounced off of the valve cover and into the intake.:brick:  could of been costly if I didnt work in a shop and have engine parts laying around

I need some advice, last week I changed cylinder heads and everything went well.  but now I have knocking sound coming from the engine.  could this be from a worn cam? cam followers?  I really hope its not a rod. . . car has really good oil pressure.  I dont know much about ohc engines.  any advice?  thanks
