84 Tbird 3.8 to 5.0 Swap - Use 3speed auto?

Hey, so Im thinking of temporarily using my auto for this swap (depending on what I opt to put into the 5.0).  Would it be difficult to link the trans to the engine with the 3 speed (IE the kickdown) ?

Thanks.
Russ

So you have a C5 trans and the 3.8L V6 has the same bell housing pattern as the 289/302/351W small block V8 so it will bolt up.  What type of induction will you be running?  Need to know that to even begin to get someone here to help.  If you are going carb then you can use the same kick down linkage from a carb'd 289/302 to a C4 (351 is a taller deck block so the linkage will be different).  This is due to the C4 and C5 being identical with the exception of the lock up converter and the valve body being the only differences.

Also, this needs to be moved to the Drivertrain Tech forum.

Then you will need a kick down cable. These were factory with the AOD trans but not a three speed auto. You might want to check out some Mustang forums to see what they have used with a C4. Most of these installs would have been done with a center console shift so that adds conplexity.

Thanks well if its a pain, then Ill just go with the Aod, which I now have.  Ive got a good low mileage c5 in the car now so itd be nice if its not too difficult to make useable though.

Thanks
