Diff oil d8dz-19c547-a

Can any one confirm the oil grade I have 80-90w gl4 as a cross reference also what is that bloody big chunk of metal that hangs under the diff was a real pain to get the filler plug out.3.8 cougar non slip diff.

I think most people run 75-140 in their traclok 8.8's, it might be less critical on an open diff 7.5 tho (which I assume you have). As far as the anchor attached to it, its suppose to dampen vibrations, I've always removed mine and felt no difference, but I'm sure Ford had their reasons.

75W-90 will work too, that's what I run.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Ok thanks for the replies will be using 80-90 as have lots of the stuff and going to remove the lump of metal after a run to see if it actually does anything except make the car weigh more.

Supposedly it's to dampen vibration.  I've heard they were ratio/rear specific as far as weight, although I cannot confirm or deny it.  I do wonder if they stop gear whine....

Took mine out eons ago.....
