Lifting my house, and not with bare hands! September 06, 2016, 11:00:19 AM Hey Guys, So as many of you may remember my adventures of living through Hurricane Sandy. We have been back home for 2+ years now and all is well. The Feds and NY state have a program called NY Rising, which was created to offset damage from future storms and floods to those worst affected. In other words, they will pay to raise my home. The process is very cool, and we are still many months away from the project start, lots of planning to do until then. Basically the house will lifted 8+ feet higher, a new foundation and slab poured and then my current ground level will be a 2000+ sq foot man cave and garage. I can improve the base level, but technically its not living space and they won't pay a dime if any flood damage occurs to any contents on that level. I don't see it as being a issue at all, aside from Sandy there has never been a flood in my area in modern history. All i have to do is get enough Birds to fill the new garage! Quote Selected
Lifting my house, and not with bare hands! Reply #1 – September 06, 2016, 03:12:58 PM Sweet. I wish I could get my basp00get redone! It's just an 1860s sandstone boulder-hole, lol. I can't do anything down there anyway. Quote Selected

Lifting my house, and not with bare hands! Reply #3 – September 06, 2016, 04:25:59 PM Hey congrats! Now that I've moved back East that kind of stuff has been on my mind. I remember seeing this on tv:https://www.extremevehicleprotection.com/Maybe kinda gimmicky? And doesn't seem to have any real-world reviews. But I'll probably give it a shot at some point as a plan B if flooding happens and I can't get the cars to high ground. Quote Selected
Lifting my house, and not with bare hands! Reply #4 – September 07, 2016, 02:25:34 PM My basp00get walls are caving in...this house was built '79 (that's 1979, not 1879!), and it was built cheaply by my tightwad grandparents. The cheapest estimate I've gotten is 41K to raise the house, knock down all 4 sides and take out the slab, and have all new poured. Of course, the walls now are something like 5", today's code calls for at least 6"....so, and yeah, concrete isn't cheap. Estimate doesn't cover that.I'll probably be moving. My dad and his sister can do shag-all with this place. Sad thing is, my kids would've been the third generation to grow up here....that does hurt, but oh well. Quote Selected

Lifting my house, and not with bare hands! Reply #6 – September 12, 2016, 09:53:38 AM Sandy was bad...anything below grade was definitely a 50/50 shot. Quote Selected
Lifting my house, and not with bare hands! Reply #7 – September 13, 2016, 11:42:03 AM i have a slightly sloped grade of about 3' to 4' under my house. I have a plan to dig a basp00get out and do wall, but its a real long term project doing it by myself.low profile bob cat would do the trick. Quote Selected
