Is there a mechanical distributor that fits the 3.8? Just curious???

I am just checking some options for my uncle. He's wanting to de-smog and remove the computer system. Will the EEC IV distributor work without the computer? If not, is there a distributor that will work on the engine? My uncle's '86 is missing part of the wiring harness.
Thanks

Find the rest of the harness, graft it in, and call it a day. Probably faster ansd easier than replacing everything.

The 83 Tbird 3.8L is a non computer car. It has the mechanical distributor and uses the Duraspark II ignition system. It also has a carb and mechanical fuel pump.
The EEC IV distributor will work without the computer but not very well. It will stay at the base timing without any spark advance, if the correct voltages are on the TFI.
On the 86, the computer also controls the fuel delivery system.

This^^^ The '86 system actually performs quite well...

Unless you have a '83 as a parts donor and are fairly good mechanic, don't even think about converting to a carb...

Just a note that Canadian V6 cars were carbureted up to and including 1986, so the option is out there, but I agree with the other guys - keep it fuel injected. The 80's smog carburetors were quite persnickety
