Bye Bye Mark VII, Hello Saab 9-7X Aero Truck

So my minty 89 Mark VII with 36K was really nice, but really impractical.  Too nice to daily drive, and not needing another toy, i needed a fun car i could realistically daily drive.  I had very little actual cash into the LSC, as i had got the car for a photography barter from a colleague of mine.  I put out a loose feeler on a Lincoln page, and the car sold in 5 minutes flat for more than i wanted.  So i now have a $6,500 budget to find me a cool, but usable daily driver.  I have in previous years owned 6 different Saab's, and know the brand well.  All were excellent driving, reliable and well thought out.  I went and found me a very rare 2008 Saab 9-7x Aero truck.  This is a rebadged version of the Chevy Trailblazer SS.  The main differences are the upgraded and much nicer interior, factory Nav and rear DVD player, upgraded tuned suspension, and the typical Saab'ish things like flip out cup holder, funky dash vents and center console ignition.  Oh, and the LS2 Corvette Drivetrain with 6.0 motor, and 4:10 factory gears.  It will tow 6500 pounds or haul your butt in 0-60 in 5.8 seconds.  Only 623 Aero trucks were built and are very rare.  A true sleeper and a Unicorn.  My favorite kind of car.  I will post a few photos soon, and the car is being delivered next week.

I honestly want to say eww... But. I've always been fond of Saab's even before I was into cars. I think they are very unique and interesting cars. Don't know how I feel about it being trail blazer based, but a 6.0 ls motor cant hurt.

Good luck with your purchase.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I needed a car/truck that i can use to haul my photo gear, AWD and bad weather capable, Scout friendly, we do a ton of weekend tent camping year round.... I have my Bird, which is an emotional car for me, the LSC as cool and nice as it was, is a car i seldom use or drive, and i can't afford to keep toys right now.  The Saab truck is super practical and fun to drive also.  It makes everyone scratch their head when they see it, which i absolutely love in any car.  These trucks when you can find them regularly sell for 10-12K.  I shot 2 weddings for a friend, and got handed the keys and title for the LSC, and then flipped that to the cash purchase for the truck.  Effectively i paid almost nothing out of pocket for the Saab.... no brainer.

The front of the hood has rust ;)

I get what you mean about keeping multiple toys. Not only is there the expense but also the space they take up.

I know about the hood rust bubbles, very common for these...not too costly to fix, just surface at this point.  I had one of my old Torino forum pals that lives nearby test drive and look it over.  Solid car with a few minor cosmetics.  I am short on space, cash and time, and if this were different times i would try and keep them all.

I feel like you change vehicles more than anyone else on the forum! Glad the deal worked out for you, I know the feeling about having too many toys.  :)

The Cougar was a result of losing my 83 to Sandy, and the LSC was really just too good of an opportunity to pass up. The equity i got out of the LSC for what i laid out for labor/barter was very good for me.  After Sandy, i can't afford a 2nd car payment, and don't have much to put towards hobby cars, so i get to keep my new 83, and rock the Saab for a DD and a unicorn cruise night car too.  The Chevy/Vette guys should be duly irritated by my presence which suits me fine, lol.

As a mechanic with experience on both Saabs and the GMT360 trucks, I can only say I'm sorry. Very, very sorry :hick:

Joking apart (and I'm only sort of joking), nice truck. Those things fly with the 6.0, and it's a much more reliable engine than the Atlas inline 6's. Just a word of advice, knowing you live in an area just as salty and py as I do: Get it well undercoated. I've seen the front frames in those trucks rusted so bad that the only thing holding the suspension in was the weight of the truck. They also have some electrical issues, mainly in the driver's door window switch (I think they finally recalled them for those very expensive window switches failing) and the evap emissions system setting leak codes (common to all GM trucks), but all in all it should treat you well

Thanks for the info/advice..... the 2008/09 had the window switches corrected in manufacture, it was 05-07 that had fires because of it.  I will do the undercoating for sure.  No codes as of now, but thanks for that heads up.

This car is going to be a blast to drive for sure.  I wish i knew a few months back you were looking for a Fox Bird/Cat.  I had a very clean 87 XR-7 Cougar that i traded for my current 83 Bird.  75K mile original car too...

You need to update the heck out of your signature. You don't own any of those cars now and the ones you do own aren't in your signature :hick:.
