I'm actually kind of impressed with the weight (or lack there of) on my T-bird. It's just a 3.8L base model but it came in at 3100 lbs. exactly without me in it and around a half tank of gas.

Carry on... :D

Sometimes these cars aren't as heavy as people think. My 88 was 1610kg, or about 3500 pounds. This was a 5.0 car after the subframe connectors, tubular adjustable rear control arms, 8.8 swap, and t-5 swap, with a 12" sub, amp, and associated wiring.

My 88 LX (every option but a sunroof) tips the scales at 3556lbs with no driver, empty trunk (except for spare and jack) and 18 gallons of gas in the tank. That's with no Thermactor system, catalytic converters, or EGR valve. It's 3700lbs+ with me. Heck it even has aluminum heads. I wouldn't doubt in stock form it was close to 3600lbs sans driver.

Yeah, that was part of the reason for running it across the scales. I think everyone sees Thunderbird and immediately thinks boat. Yet, the base model is pretty darn light and not that far off a similar year Mustang. Perfect for making fast!

My car is parked next to a new 4 door Honda Accord. It actually makes my car look not so big.

Those new Accords and Camrys are huge. Heck, the new Corolla is the same size as my old 97 Camry!

Right,  it's like sometimes I think my tbird is a big car then you park next to nothing but newer cars and they really make our cars look small
Heck I'm actually always parking in "compact"  spots lol

I just did some checking, a base 88 with the V8 weighs about 200 lbs less than a base 89 with the V6.

I really want to scale mine. Manual everything and only real options are 302 and console now.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Mine is 3450 without driver. A/C system completely removed, Kenne Bell added in it's place, aluminum heads, Tremec TKO500 no sway bar, no cats, subframe connectors. Not bad considering how heavy the 2 all-electric front seats are.

Why is mine about 100lbs heavier? Both our cars are fully optioned. Maybe the AOD, A/C, and sway bars adds 100lbs?
