I AM Visiting Niagara Falls, need "local" input

I am thinking about surprising my wife with a little weekend trip up to the falls but before I go falling into the tourist trap stuff, I wanted to see what the locals have to say about it.  I am thinking about leaving here either the evening of November 18th, the morning of the 19th, or the evening of the 19th.  The occasion is her birthday on November 19.

Any advice, places to avoid, roads to avoid, things to not waste time on, things that we should definitely not miss, good place to eat, stay overnight, etc, would be appreciated.

Here is the route Mapquest suggested.

Maybe we could meet up with some of you Niagara folks Friday or Saturday.

Hey man, I guess us people that live around the falls take them for granted but they are really a sight to see. I live about 10 miles away in buffalo. Some cool things to do are cave of the winds where u go behind the falls. I would say maid of the mist would be fun but it might be a bit too cold for that considering you get soaked. They have a hard rock cafe by the falls and that is a pretty nice place. If you want to go see the falls, Im afraid to say it but the canadian side is done much nicer than USA. If you are up for gambling casino niagara is right there as well. The canadian side is a lot of fun, lots of things like haunted houses and stuff like that if you are into it. You should stop by, my house is only about a 20 - 25 minute drive from the falls.

I also think baxo is relatively close to the falls.

Dude, if you come to Niagara falls, i suggest you take the extra effort and come to the Canadian side, as far as tourists go, don't worry about it, not too much tourist activity happens in November. I Don't know about the U.S side but the canadian side, there really isn't any roads you should avoid never have i seen a major traffic blockage, things from my experience tend to run pretty smoothly. I know many good places to eat on the Canadian side, and i know many good things to see and do, just let me know if you want to take the extra effort into coming to the Canadian side, and i'll see how I can hook you up.

OH, one think I forgot to mention is, also from the Canadian side you get a better view of both falls, Can't relly get a good view of the smaller falls from the U.S. side.

Ok, I think it would be cool to meet up with you all on Saturday night for dinner or something.  What are all you Buffalo, Niagara Falls region people doing that weekend?  Who is in the "NRTCN?"

Ok, all y'all up there in the Niagara Falls region, what about getting together Friday night?  baXo is free Friday and 1WLD BRD is free too.  It's my wife's birthday so I want to go out to eat somewhere good.  Doesn't have to be fancy but has to be good quality, unique or somehow "better than norm."  If it's fancy, that's cool but I don't want to have to wear a tie.  Somewhere with either a good view, good ambiance, something unique to the area, not a big chain like Applebees that I could go to here in Maryland.

Then maybe, hit a club or something. Wait, is everyone over whatever the legal age is in Canada?

So, how about it?

This is awesome. Looks like everyone has Friday night free and even Saturday night after 9:30 when baXo finishes up with his other plans.

We are going to be meeting baXo around 4 or 5 or so on Friday so we should PM each other phone numbers and stuff to figure this out.

The legal age here is 19, and from the Canadian side I believe I'm the youngest one at 20 so don't worry about that the age limit, we're good.

Pulling chocks

Ok folks, I am pulling chocks so we need to firm up a meeting place.  Marc B. said he could be at the falls at 7.  Everyone, check your PM inbox or get a hold of Cougar8775, baXo, 1WLD BRD, or 4thqtr for my number.  4thqtr isn't going but he has my number.

Please call me today while I am on the road or call baXo so we can firm up a time to meet.  I guess since Marc B. mentioned he can be at the falls at 7, we can use that as a proposed meeting time and place but we all need to call each other today so we can firm this and meet up.

I want to thank you all for coming out to the Niagara Falls area Friday night so we could hang out.  Also, thank you for giving us the personal tour.  And Alex, thanks for driving us around and all the phone coordination prior to our arrival.

I didn't call anyone Saturday night because we decided to turn in around 10:00pm so we could be ready for Sunday's 7-hour drive.

Here are two pics of us in front of RJ's car after eating at Mick and Angelo's Friday night:

Left to right: Me, my wife Debbie, RJ (1WLD BRD), Alex (baXo), Teresa (Marc's wife), and Marc (IVIercuryIVIan), RJ's wife, Brenda, took the pictures (reply if I got someone's name wrong or misspelled)
