87 Turbocoupe auto-x build

Little background on me first. Name is Ryan and live in central Ohio, I just sold off my 2012 mustang gt so I can buy a house. Still wanting something to have fun in and autocross I picked up a turbo coupe after doing some searching and came across ford guys cp Build decided a turbocoupe would be a fun project. I Auto-x a 98 cobra 2 years ago and last year my 2012 gt. just picked up this turbo coupe for 800 bucks. Now I need to figure out where to start lol. Know very little about the 2.3t platform. Been around mustangs my whole life. I've had a handful of fox bodies, 98 cobra, 99 cobra. New edge gt's and the 2012 coyote car. Hoping to get a chance to talk to ford guy and get a direction on where to go with the build.

Few pictures now.

looks like a fun project.  Welcome to the forums. :)  You've added to a nice collection of cars.

Have fun reading... this thread you referenced details one of the best auto-x Fox-bird builds I've seen, especially the details and pictures provided.  The TC is already a decent handler, and the 2.3T can provide quite a bit of go depending on what parts you put with it.  It's not the "on" switch the V8 can have from off-idle, but sometimes the turbo lag can help keep you out of the cones.

Firstly, what class do you want to run in? Sounds like you have enough autoX experience to know how to figure out what all mods go into each class, and anything you decide you want to do is available for this chassis, so it really all comes down to how fast you want to spend :hick:

We will see. The over boost light on the tc comes on pegs gauge at 18 then light and buzzer come on. Probaly a bad waste gate. Think I'll do a 3" exhasut t3/t4 turbo a fmic. And call it good motor wise. Keep this build cheap as I'm eyeballing a 65 mustang coupe to get as well. See what happens. Car is very fun to drive even being bone stock. Even got the org build sheet with the car. Every record from 31k miles on up to where it is now at 191. Even had the org keys that have turbo engraved on them.

I've read that cp build thread twice now. He put together a very nice car. All the videos of it. Cars seems to take a corner really well.

And wish it was added to the collection. Both the cobra and the 12 mustang are gone. :(
