Front Brakes

Hi guys,
Ive got an 86 5.0 Thunderbird. Im looking into upgrading the front brakes. Ive gone to AmericanMuscle.com since they have lots of aftermarket fox stuff. And they have a set of slotted rotors and performance pads.

Basically, American Muscle says they'll fit 87-93 mustangs. Would these fit on my thunderbird? I know lots of things carry over from the mustang to the thunderbird. Any info is appreciated.

Nope, you need to either upgrade to the fox gt spindles (or turbo coupe) or get a kit for the pathetic 86 down mustangs which used our sized brakes.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

87-88 Only turbo coupes use the same spindle and brakes as 87-93 5.0 mustangs.

all upgrades are based.off of.them.basically, unless you go.sn-95 spindles.

check out coolcats.net and read up on the brakes section.

Yep, you need fox Mustang spindles.  To be honest even going from our brakes to the stock Mustang setup is an improvement.  I've done this with calipers off a Lincoln and Hawk pads and it stops good enough for what I'm doing.

I've done the exact same swap and it works VERY good......even with stock rear drums.

regarding the rear brakes, see i was gonna try to swap out the rear end. Cuz right now I have a 2.73. I think. So I wanted to find a turbo coupe rear, because they have disc brakes and 3.73 gears...which means more accleration :)

3.73 from an automatic 87-88 TC; 3.55 from a 5 speed...
