improved tsat location CHUCK W?

So a long while back i asked, Ill ask again to Chuck,,
what are the odds you could improve on the 5.0 engine to desgn something like i show below that simply relocates the tstat housing?
the below is an adaptor that would attach to the intake.

the tstat housing would bolt to the top
the only real change is the bypass hose to be used.
a standard 5.0 upper radiator hose would still work because you simply trim off the 90deg bend up at the motor making the hose now look like a simple 90deg.

the tstat kneck would point to the passanger side of your engine bay.

Jay why would you want an adapter like this?? It is no big deal to change a stat in a small ford engine. If you have some difficulties with stat changes use studs in the manifold and extender sleeves with nuts. Also glue the stat in to the manifold with HIGH TAC or super weather strip adhesive and also the gasket to the stat housing or the lower manifold. But with studs you just can slip the gasket on to them and it will hold on them so you can slip on the housing.  Makes the job much easier and you can use long nuts to finish the job up nicely. You can also install a jam nut up against a shoulder of a long bolt to extend the head for tightening other than a sleeve. I also do that on things like distributor bolts on the 2.3 ford turbo or na engines. It extends the head of the bolt high up on the cap area for ease of tightening . Been doing it like this for many years on tight stat housings and Dizzy hold downs.  Bellow is a SAAB crank sensor. The original bolt is so short you can never put it back. So i use a tap bolt cut to length and make a sleeve out of brake hose to accomplish a fast easy way to install it. The brake hose flared end makes a perfect push point on the sender and It brings out the tightening point far enough for easy tightening on hard to reach applications. It works just as well with stat housings and other things like headers ETC. My dad always told me not to use my head for a HAT RACK!! But even so i still loose hats all the time. Have a good day guys.

I get what you're saying. I don't mess with the 5.0's much, but when I was working on the engine in the old Bittersweet XR-7, I wanted to go back in time and stab the engineer who put that t-stat housing bolt where they did.

Your idea might cause more issues with air pockets, but maybe not.

Why not just use a t-stat in a hose if it bugs ya that much?

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

toms comments on studs make sense to a degree yet now you add a nut to the bottom connection.  the water pump housing is too much in the way of the work area.

but a tstat in the hose? interesting..........?

Jay why would you want an adapter like this??

because with a fully populated engine and all brackets and such, it it not in my opinion the better way.
Chevy has it right, i am asking if an adaptor could be fixed to the intake so the tstat housing is mounted like the chevy 350,, horizontal and flat and easy as hell to get to.

compare time to change a chevy 350 tstat to a ford 302....  i would simply guesstimate the time on the ford would be about 25 to 30 times longer.
i dont use the thin gaskets that come wtih the stats, i make my own which are thicker,, and i dont have to use adhesives.  i have to use a small tiny bead of high temp just to enable me to turn the housing vertical and come into the landing point of the housing,, and im always worried if the stat moves or not during install.

its a pita,, just trying to use my head,, thats all.

Lots of small dohc i-4's have a small plastic housing that splices into a radiator hose.

then you could just make a 90° adaptar for your intake and put.the t-stat somewhere inline.

ill bet an old thermostat housing and some pipe fittings, or a trip to the junkyard and you will find something cheap that would do the trick.

it couldn't be all that hard to find a threaded water pipe you could fit a stock thermostat in and then just stick an o-ring on the side you want sealed.

chuck,
i honestly think this would sell very well.
once word got out, there are still plenty of 5.0's out there with this pita oem setup.

the machne work to accept the profile of the tstat is all within the oem tstat housing which gets re-used/relocated.
this means the adaptor just needs to be a simple 90deg up transition.
the existing tstat housing would sit and point to the passanger side on top of the adaptor ,, but it places the tstat horisontal now and solves the access problems.

Jay changing that stat is a simple thing that i personally do not give it a second thought. High tac to hold the stat in the manifold 2 studs and a sleeve and it is simple as pie. Now if you want to change a difficult stat change one on a V6 Chrysler 3 hours or how about a VW GTI. The ford stat is a bit difficult but not that bad. use the studs and the High Tac or super weather strip adhesive that will prevent the stat from moving prior to installing the housing.  Or use an inline stat which is another option i guess. Have a good weekend guys.

If you are having trouble catching the nut if you stud the lower bolt hole use one of these nuts or a TAP bolt adjusted to length with 2 nuts. Either method works easily and brings out the tightening point past the place where it will be easily tightened. There you go JAY!!
