Wiring ?? Are there Any differences in 1993 HO 5.0 xr7 vs 5.0 HO mustang

I'm dropping a xr7 motor 5.0 HO in a project car and wanted to know if the harness is the same as a 5.0 mustang?

Does anyone know?

Thanks for any help

Interesting...

Best would be look for the correct EVTM, usually can be found on ebay... That said color of wire will likely have same function in either harness but connectors will no doubt be pinned differently...

Doesn't the MN12 5.0 use a electric fan??? If so there will be extra wiring for it and any other feature not on the Stang...

It does use an electric fan, also, isn't the MN-12 car an OBD II design?

Defiantly not before the 4.6 in '94, I believe those were still OBD-I and maybe states '95(my Calif '95 was OBD-II), all vehicles switched for the '96 model year...

i just compared ecu pin colors mustang vs cougar

it looks like they are completely different.

 Here is my plan.

To swap in a 93 cougar HO 5.0 mated to a T5 :evilgrin:into a 89 bmw 325i. smog legal with a ref sticker in the end.

I have the schematics to cut and splice a mustang harness and not a cougar harness into a bmw. I guess I will just look up each cougar pin and cut and splice accordingly.

Does anyone here possibly have a link to a wiring diagram for a 93 cougar HO?

93-97, ALL Cougars were XR-7's, still not sure why Ford jumped the gun a year early with that decision. :dunno::shakehead

93 Cougar 5.0 was 200hp, 93 Mustang 5.0 LX/GT would be 205hp, Cobra would be 235hp.

89-93 n/a 3.8's and 5.0's used a mechanical clutch fan, all years of the S/C 3.8 and ALL 94-97's used an electric fan. 96 & 97 would be OBD-II, 89-95 would still be OBD-I

Not '95 with Calif emissions, mine was OBD-II which surprised me, had to go borrow a scanner when it started running like poo and tripped a CEL... Turned out to have a sour MAF, only one I've ever seen that was truly bad... I stuck one on it from a 5.0 stang and it ran much better but I wound up having to get the correct one...

so 94 would be the safest year to say is the stop year for parts compatability and be obd1?

Yes, for a Mustang, but a 94 Cougar would have the 4.6.

I do know the 91-93 Thunderbird/Cougar computer is harder to tune and doesn't respond as well to mods as the Mustang MAF A9L/A9P computer. If possible I would go with a Mustang wiring harness and an A9L/A9P computer. An 86-88 Thunderbird/Cougar or 86-89 Lincoln Mark VII harness would also work with the A9L/A9P with the MAF wiring added.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

OP, have you looked into a Painless harness for your project? Might be easier than trying to convert something to fit your needs...

Just get the EEC depending on whether you're going with mass air or speed density, and some required sensors if they're not available on the engine donor...

I'm trying to keep everything stock for now so I can get it to pass smog legally in California. I may just track down a fox body harness ecu & intake and make it a mustang engine. That way I can smog it as a mustang and tune it easier down the road.

Get an aftermarket engine harness for a 91-93 Fox Mustang.  An A9l or A9P EEC will bolt right up and work with the T-5.  The Painless harness is one pieces which means there is not a separate injector harness or separate O2 harness which makes life a little easier.

Finding an original Fox Mustang engine harness with the correct year injector harness and correct year O2 harness that is not hacked or crumbling only to cause you issues later down the road is just a headache waiting to happen.  Painless makes one as well as Ford Racing.
