remote start on a CFI 5.0

Is there any way It can be done? The obstacle is the Fast Idle Cam.

I'm confused. its not any different then wiring up a push button start. I don't see what the cam has to do with anything.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

With the engine stone cold, if I go and just turn the key it'll start, sputter a little bit, then stall.

You could go out, unlock it, set the fast idle, lock it, run back into the house and THEN hit the remote starter........or not.  :spit:

Can't be done.  :sorry:

Maybe I don't have as much experience with CFI as some of these other guys (I had one on a 3.8 in my 87 Bird 15 years ago), but It seems like I remember that THIS (in red) is supposed to set your high idle.

For those who are a bit confused, when starting a CFI car in cold weather, you're supposed to press the pedal all the way to the floor once before starting. This will set the car to idle higher than normal until it reaches a certain temperature, where it then kicks down to a lower RPM. Failing to do so can cause the car to stall immediately after starting due to the cold weather, or even not start at all. Obviously no remote starter system can press the pedal to the floor for you. I'm fairly certain it's a completely mechanical system, there's some sort of...I dunno, lever that's attached to a metallic coil. As the coil heats up and expands, it lets the throttle drop down to normal. I could be wrong, it's been a while since I've seen my 'Bird. Wish I could help more.

dragon574444 is right on the money. I remember that when it stalls, and I start it again, it does exactly as it should. So I'm thinking I need a remote start that will automatically restart the car after if stalls out.

My 83 CFI had a bimetal spring for the fast idle. It idled high until that spring heated up and relaxed. Maybe you could find a way to implement one of those.

I had two 3.8 cfi's and I never had one stall out without touching the gas.
