302/aodwierd noise

so today i noticed a odd noise coming from what seems like between the engine and trans it allmost sounds like a frayed belt hitting somthing at the same time sounds like its in sinc with the exhaust pulse it dose not sound like metal to metal contact but i am not sure what it could be i recently had the trans out replaced the rear main seal. im going to be going under her tomorrow but anything any one could think of where to start would be awsome im a itle worried im going to have to drop the trans again:punchballs:
Also i can hear it when i pull on the clumn shift to put it in to gear like putting a cup to a door

Well if it's in sequence with the exhaust pulses I would guess it's an exhaust leak. Check where the exhaust pipes bolt to the manifolds since they probably disconnected the exhaust to get the transmission out to replace the rear main seal. I bet they either didn't tighten it up fully or they forgot to put a gasket in between the manifold and exhaust pipe (if your car doesn't have headers).

I did it all my self i got rushed in to puting it all back together after the van died on me so i put the hole top end back togother and the trans back in in a couple days and had her out the gerage half painted and no trim right now the tbirds all i have
i checked the headers collectore gasket its fine i used a piece of tubing while it was running up to my ear and it sunds like its coming from the bellhousing im thinking its the tourqe converter not 100% on that but for now im going to have to run it untill i can do somthing about it there are no funds i ended up getting a huge ticket last month so with that and christmas im prety much tapped out

If the noise is in the bell housing, could be loose converter nuts, bolts to the crank, or maybe a cracked flexplate... I once saw a loose starter on a 2.3T give a noise when running but it wasn't continual...

Also I suppose it'd be a good idea to be sure bell housing bolts are tight...

I pulled the cover off and checked the bolts to the converter and they checked out ill check the started but the noise is coming from the driverside of the bellhousing so i dont think its the starter
Thanks for not giving me guff i no i messed somthing up but i dont no what.  I do not have alot of experience under my belt but i love working on cars
i put all the bolts/nuts to tourqe specs and used locktight is it possible that the rear main seal is rubbing on the flexplate? or would it be spewing oil if that was it
(its not leaking)
