non car related ~ LED lighting October 28, 2013, 12:41:22 PM tossing this out there because you never know "who knows what" on this board.. some pretty smart guys among us.Need the traditional 4' flush mount light housing that would typically hold a couple florescent bulbs but...This light needs to be -48vdc input.~with much of the customers equipment being switch mode power supplies, when the voltage goes down, the the current goes up with respect to battery back up demand.typically i have about 10k amp/hour battery back up on an average site when utility is lost and the on site generator fails to start or runs out of its 48hrs of diesel.typically i have about 1200A of dc demand at a site and i dont think that a dozen or so lights will command more than a 1 amp ea total at -30vdc.This is approx 30hrs of battery run time.anyone?Again.... looking for 4' LED lights that can be powered off -48vdcIf any one knows if a + potential in 12v/24v/48v can simply work fine by flipping the polarity, chime in as well.I am seeing a lot of 12v stuff and thinking i could series 4 lamps on one 3amp breaker.. but i have to consider what happens if one lamp shorts and does not open... then the voltage input to the other lamps would increase..let me know .... non car related ~ LED lighting Reply #2 – December 30, 2013, 12:34:19 PM doing some beta testing now, each 20w bulb draws about 340ma at -54vdc float.bulbs were actually coming on at -24v dc as well, i had a requirement the design allow the lights to come on at as low as 36vdc,, but the supplier went much better. My dc plant can only dial down as low as -38.4vdc so i had to use a couple car batteries to get the -24v to happen.just posting an update incase anyone has off grid solutions in mind or installed.my beta testing shippment of 4 bulbs has a 75% failure rate ,, not good but i will give the supplier the opportunity to rebound and also to include my investigation into how they actually test these before shipping them out. 3 out of 4 bulbs failed within 4 minutes and these specific 3 were actually much brighter than the 4th 20watt bulb.at 38.4vdc, the current draw pulled up slightly to 400ma Quote Selected
