460 Swap With stock K Member? Reply #3 – August 13, 2013, 12:24:11 PM I sent these pics to Rick in a pm, but for future reference to those that search, I will offer my experience. These are pics of solid mounts I made to fit the 460 in my 87 TC. nOne pic shows the upper half of the mounts on the 460 (on the cherry picker)When I made them, I was using D5 exhaust manifolds. In order to use my turbo headers, I had to use large nuts (as spacers) to raise the engine that amount, so that is what you see in the pics.Putting the 460 in there is do-able with the 86-88 k-member, but you have to make your own mounts. 460 Swap With stock K Member? Reply #4 – August 13, 2013, 12:45:30 PM I'm guessing the 460 won't fit under a stock hood with the spacers you added? I know you got it to fit before without the spacers but it was tight. Quote Selected

I know you got it to fit before without the spacers but it was tight.Actually, even with the motor mount spacers and a 1/2 inch phonelic carb spacer, the 14 x 3 Moroso drop base air cleaner barely cleared the duct-work for the hood vents.Yes, I am using 1/2 inch k-frame spacers as well as offset rack bushings for the manual steering rack. That's good for 1/2 inch. Here are some pics of the install completed: Quote Selected

I'm guessing sans K-member spacers it wouldn't fit under the hood?Correct, because the top of the spark plug wire boots on the dist. cap are now touching the plastic air scoop ductwork on the hood. However, I have never took that scoop stuff off to see how much more clearance there is.I left it on in case I get caught in the rain, then the water would just get the right side if the engine wet and not the distributor. (plus it looks better than without) Quote Selected

(without spacers)My Gray 460 Bird does not have spacers and if I put the hood back down, I'm pretty sure the air cleaner will clear the hood.Probably have to use a Moroso style drop down base air cleaner and a 14 x 3 filter. Reply #13 – September 03, 2013, 12:04:47 PM I cant see how a 460 would fit without the spacer I had to cut out the hood bracing so my holly air filter would fit on top of my 302 with a 1inch carb spacer but I'm going the next step and getting a hood scoop for my car Saturday at the swap meet Quote Selected
