New Engine on it's way....

Hello all,
I have not posted much on this site since I joined. Last fall I purchased a low mile one owner 1985 Turbo Coupe and have had it stored in a heated garage over the winter. I took it out a couple of weeks ago and the car really drives and runs nice. A lot of people will not like my plans for the car as it is so clean and rust free, but I have always wanted to build one after owning an 83 when I was younger.
Well I had a Ford Racing 351w B58 sportsman block and had it built into a 395 stroker at Keith Craft performance engines. These blocks are not as tough as the boss 351 blocks but when built properly they can handle alot. The main journals are much thicker than standard production blocks and can be machined for 4 bolt mains which I had them do to the engine along with partially filling the block. According to KC they said the engine will safely handle north of 850 hp and that they have built them to last at this power level for some time.
I fully trust this engine builder and had them build the engine for boost. It is fully forged and balanced to 0 ounces. It has a custom grind roller cam 8.6 to 1 compression and Keith Craft CNC brodix 210 cc heads along with an Edelbrock victor efi intake that was port matched to the heads. The engine is built to run 14 psi of boost. This is going to be provided by a Turbonetics T-76 ball bearing turbo that was built for this combo. This summer I am getting the 10 pt cage installed and getting the car back halved to fit a narrowed fab 9 rear 4 link set up and 32x14 slicks. The trans is going to be a G force G101a with long v gate shifter. I want to run a fast xfi fuel injection but that might change as the project gets to that point.
Anyways Keith Craft dynoed the engine with a carb for me and I thought I would show the results. This is a low compression motor but the numbers look good, cant wait until the turbo is on!

Very nice. It's almost the same as what I want down the road - a turbo 408 with 9psi to start and growing to 14.7psi after additional tuning and getting some experience with the combo. It must feel good with that on the way to you!

I'm a bit paranoid and plan on starting with a Dart block. The additional expense puts everything off though, and actually having a motor is better than not, and waiting to save up.

I here you on that. I plan on running it a 7lbs to start and then 10 and see what it is like. Its all the extra's beside the engine that really add up. I am doing it in stages, after I get the car back in the fall, I am going to install the engine and trans over the winter when my job slows down and see what it is going to take to install the turbo. I would like to fab it up in the front end. I have also been thinking about getting a glass front end from a company in Ontario that has a 4 inch extended hood and fenders. That would give some extra room for the turbo up front. Wish I could see what one of these cars looks like with the extension. I am hoping to have the car on the road next year but I need to keep saving!

Yes, the are called Showcars and the extended front end is just 2 inches, for some reason I thought it was a 4 inch extension. They have changed this webpage since I last saw it.

Yea, it does help to fill the block that's for sure. I am waiting on paperwork to arrive and will post exactly what they did to it. That shop has some really killer equipment and they know there stuff that's for sure. All I have so far is the picture they sent me of the engine all crated up.

Okay as promised here are some pics of the engine. I have had it for a couple of weeks but forgot my cam when I picked it up. They really did a nice job packaging it all up and it was mounted on a cool little frame. I am very pleased so far.

Yes, I was thinking of buying a stock style glass hood and getting it made into a cobra r style. I think that would look good but maybe just a normal cowl. I just don't like the look of some cowls that go straight up on the edges you know? I like them slightly curved out and I have always liked the cobra r style. I wish I could see a pic of a 4 eyed car with one on.

Those are nice but I would prefer one without the svo scoop as I want the air to be drawn out of the cowl. On my 94 SC I bought a cobra r mach one style hood. It was a nice hood but this time I will find a way to get a cobra r hood with no scoops made for my 85 TC.
