These two items are my "wonder tools." The Garrity Disposable Flashlight has a high intensity beam that made working on the cars, a wonder. It is really bright and of course helps my weaker eyes. The other tool, a Harbor Freight purchase, is a hose removal tool. Too bad I never knew of its existence all these years. I'm sure its no recent invention.

makita 1/2" li-ion hammer drill.

I have had this drill for quite some time. I have not used the lithium ion dewalt drills yet, but this drill eats a nicad drill for breakfast. I drilled 3/4" holes with a 18" long bit, dropped it 40 feet off of telephone poles onto concrete, and left it in puddles of water over night. it will go through concrete using the hammer, but I wouldn't try much more then a 1/2" masonry bit.

I though the drill was dead when the charger quit working. I dug it out a few weeks ago and charged the batteries up with a lipo battery charger for my model airplanes, and it works good as new. these batteries are from 2006, when these drills were brand new.

it has a brushless motor, so it will (practically) never wear out. I plan to buy some lipo batteries of 5 cells (about 20v's charged) and build an adapter out of the original battery packs because I'm cheap and don't want to drop $100 for two batteries. it still has tons of power, but capacity is about done. I used to be able to drill 15-20 poles between charges, its now down to 3-5. I may pull the battery packs apart and test cells to see if any are bad. I might be able to come up with one good pack and have one I can use to adapt with the other.

if your interested in this drill, get the 3ah battery, and 3 speed gear box. the two speed model is a brushed motor and not quite as beefy.

Wow for how long those batteries lasted you, I would say you definitely got your money's worth

The key to making lithium batteries last long is actually using them and not storing them fully charged

I have used it on rusty bolts and whatever I have soaked in the stuff came right out like it was a new bolt. The trim screws on my dad's '74 Vette were rusted in place and the philips heads were starting to strip. I soaked the bolts and they went from looking rusty to a greyish as the rust seemed to have dissolved. He thought they were going to have to be drilled out, the half stripped philips head screws came right out! It's not cheap but it works miracles on rusty bolts and nuts and is a big money saver on Advil!

One tool I fell in love with is the Hitachi 10.8v Li-Ion Impact Driver (WH10DL). This is not for changing tires, this is a small one for screws and small bolts. When I was doing electronics repair/recycling, our team had 5 of these. I loved it so much, I bought one for myself at home. It is very fast, very strong for its size, and very durable. We'd drop them on the concrete floor all the time, and they just keep on running.

This little guy might not find much use in a mechanics environment, but it is a great driver if you do electronics work, or anything else that requires repetitive use. It is very light and well balanced, and doesn't bother my carpal tunnel at all. The charge lasts a long time, and recharging is pretty quick (35-45 minutes). Ever take the back off a big old plasma TV? There can be 50+ screws! This driver makes short work of it with no operator fatigue. The impact function is great too; blasts right through loc-tite and rust. Be careful though, it will rip the heads right off too, lol. That's when you reach for its companion, the Hitachi DS10DFL 10.8v drill, and drill out the remains, heh. But that's another wonderful tool worthy of it's own rave. You can get the Hitachi WH10DL and DS10DFL in a kit together, that's what I did.

I can't think of a single bad thing to say about these Hitachi tools.

Porter-cable drill and driver kit from lowes. The drill isnt AS handy as the driver but i use them for work. For the price you cant beat em at lowes. The only py part is the price of batteries. You could buy a new set almost cheap as you can the batteries. But i have 3 1.5AH batteries and 1 4.0AH. Theyre pretty stout.
