Manual steering rack? January 08, 2013, 09:41:13 AM Hey guys, I'm working on my 83 TC, building it into a decent bracket car. I plan to back-half it, 10 point cage etc. I have the rear of the car pretty much figured out, but where I'm having problems is with steering it. I'm not going to be running power steering, and was wondering if there was a manual rack from a different vehicle that would bolt up. I've heard that one off a 71 pinto would fit. Anyone have any suggestions for this? Quote Selected

Manual steering rack? Reply #3 – January 09, 2013, 05:48:43 AM The thing is, this will be a track only car, and Im going from a 2.3t/t5 combo to a V-8 with a powerglide using front and mid plates, and don't plan on running any kind of accessory drive on it. Hence the reason for converting it to a manual rack. Secondly, while I'm here, anyone have a suggestion for a decent set of replacement struts suitable for drag racing?Thank ya Quote Selected
Manual steering rack? Reply #5 – January 13, 2013, 10:48:13 PM The Fox and SN95 Mustang rack will bolt right into our cars with no issues. If you are running power steering you need to make sure the pump matches the rack but in this case that does not apply. There were a couple years that the Fox Mustangs came with manual rack but finding one is pretty hard as all the drag racers have scoured the recycle yards for them. Unisteer makes new ones and I have heard guys have had good results:http://www.unisteer.com/seach_by_vehicle/ford_steering/1979-1993_mustang_rack_pinion.htmlOn the 83-85 cars you can run a Fox Mustang strut with no issue unless you have dropped it into the weeds. I have coil overs on my '83 with it pretty low I have had no issues with the Koni DA's for a Fox Mustang.Darren Quote Selected
