T5 Gear Whine Reply #15 – December 20, 2012, 05:25:52 PM The input shaft didn't have any endplay at all, I got it off Craigslist a year ago. The seller said he thought it was rebuilt, but I guess that's not true I've got the stock rubber crossmember mount on it. Interestingly enough, I was able to use the stock double hump crossmember without having to grind of the welds. Maybe that's just a Mustang problem. It's a world class T5, came out of an 86 Mustang. I'm not too concerned with it blowing up on me, I won't feel too bad about beating it around It's just gotta get me 5 miles to work and back until February, can't bring the Thunderbird to Lackland AFB Thanks for the responses, this forum is great. T5 Gear Whine Reply #16 – December 20, 2012, 07:54:38 PM Stock T5's are weak at best. However, I'm running a faceplated T5Z from Hanlon Motorsports. I've got3 years of low 11/high 10 second passes on it. I leave the line between 3600-4000 depending on track conditions. Sounds like your T5 is going tits, and not the good kind... Quote Selected

T5 Gear Whine Reply #18 – January 24, 2013, 08:03:00 AM Quote from: dragon574444;404906I swapped my AOD out for a T5 this weekend, and I've got some pretty serious whining through gears 1-3...... I filled it with generic ATF, a bit over 2 quarts.? well if it ISNT a WC T5, then that is possibly your problem. non WC T5's take 50w gear oil not ATF Quote Selected
T5 Gear Whine Reply #19 – January 24, 2013, 12:37:33 PM Go here and get a manual for the tranny:http://www.tremec.com/anexos/TRSM-T5-0510-R1_173.pdfIgnore the goofy looking tail housing on the one in the first page or two.It is getting harder and harder to find good used units. If you can find someone that rebuilds them in close proximity you can usually talk to them and get a decent idea as to what it will cost to go through it. If that came from a 86 car I would start looking for one that came from a 91-93 car and when you find one take it to a builder and have them tear it down and inspect it before you buy it. If the seller will not go for this pass on it.Darren Quote Selected
