This is another item I wanted to ask about so when the time comes to do the swap I am prepared. i just wanted to be sure that a bigger pump can be swapped onto the factory hanger. It will be an HO 5.0 so the least it will have is a 190lph pump. I will keep an eye out for Mustang guys selling their unwanted parts. I am not keen on the parts store pumps either. The reliability is not the best.

Hey Vinnie, lets see a picture of your access panel to the fuel pump in the Sport. I worked at a couple of import dealers over the years and a lot of their cars have access panels to get to the fuel pumps. Makes it a lot easier.

Thanks for the input everyone.

The pump will fit the factory hanger fine, might have to use zip ties, might not. I think the access panel was an idea that was sped by ford if you go in your trunk and feel on the carpet on the passenger side there is a hump and that is directly over the fuel pump. Cut that out and put in a latch system and you got yourself an access panel that in my opinion seemed like it should have been there from the factory.

The pump in the T-bird/Cougar has a larger diameter than the Mustang/Mark VII pump. Aftermarket pumps are the same diameter as the Mustang. When I bought my 155lph Walbro I was able to purchase it with a rubber sleeve that fit the T-bird pump bracket. Unfortunately I don't remember where I got it from. A new pump will bounce around in the stock T-bird rubber sleeve as it is a thinner diameter than the stock T-bird pump.

Have you heard of worm clamps!!! That is how i mount most of these pumps. Tie raps are a very bad IDEA. I will see if i have some photos of my PUMP MODS!!!

I do not have to many photos of pump mods. But here i am retro fitting a fuel pump from an early S10 Blazer to fit a SAAB. The SAAB pump is obsolete and the replacement unit is TELEPHONE NUMBERS. So here is a chevy pump in a late model SAAB. Worked great

Tom, if I were the owner of said Saab, I'd upgrade too...the vehicle, that is. LMAO.

Yeah, zip ties in a solvent? Not such a good idea. Of course, most are polyethylene, so they may hold, but I'd use a clamp if need be.

I would probably use the worm clamp too. I wouldn't have to worry about them coming loose or falling apart. Interesting to know the Mustang and T-Bird had different size pumps.

Hey Tom, I bet that Saab gives you plenty of business. LOL!

The turbo coupes use the smaller pump like 5.0 Stang, even has same numbers on them...

Hmm I did not know that. Thanks for letting me know. Now I wonder why Ford would go through the trouble of using two different pump sizes.....

The pump I swapped in came with a new rubber mount that fit perfect in the stock hanger assembly. No hose clamps involved (minus the small short hose to the line).

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
