84 5.0 elan 65000 original miles October 28, 2011, 09:05:31 PM I'm selling an 84 Tbird elan 5.0 w\ 65000 miles. The car is in Sacramento, CA. It comes with the original 14" aluminum wheels and withe Mustang 10 hole wheels with brand new michelins. The car was overheating and I had no time to fix it or get it fixed. I parked it about 6 months ago. I paid over $500 for the wheels and tires less than 6 months before I parked it. The heater core has a leak and has been plumbed around. Car is light metallic blue, with some fading. Blue velour seats with a 3-4" tear on the drivers side seat. Other than that it's very clean. Not sure what its worth, hoping you can help.Dano Quote Selected
84 5.0 elan 65000 original miles Reply #1 – October 28, 2011, 09:40:29 PM Really hard to put a value on a car that has an unknown issue. Personally, being it's in Cali and rust-free, I'd pay about a grand for it if the interior is okay, but others may pay more. Quote Selected
84 5.0 elan 65000 original miles Reply #2 – October 29, 2011, 11:44:07 AM Thanks for the feedback. How much more would it be worth to you (not that you are going to buy it, but because you have some expertise here) if the problem was addressed and repaired. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth putting more money into or if I'm better just taking a quick $1000 and getting out. Quote Selected
84 5.0 elan 65000 original miles Reply #3 – October 29, 2011, 12:49:57 PM Are you mechanically inclined to the point you will fix it or will it be fixed by someone you pay? In this part of the country a low mileage non-rusted away car probably holds a little more value, or atleast it does when I am buying. I paid 1500 for a 83 Heritage with 80k miles a few years ago and I had to repair some deer damage and re-paint it. You are atleast on the right site for people who would have an interest in it and save it. I have a real interest in it but I also have a overfull garage of things I thought I had an interest in. 84 5.0 elan 65000 original miles Reply #4 – October 29, 2011, 03:20:04 PM It looks really nice in the photos. If they read true and it was mechanically sound, I'd be inclined to pay $3-4000 for it, given it was what I was looking for. All buyers are different though. That's a gem to me. Living in the rust belt, it's hard to find such nice cars. Quote Selected
84 5.0 elan 65000 original miles Reply #5 – October 29, 2011, 06:31:29 PM Hi James,I noticed where you are posting from. The reason I am trying to move the car is because I'm moving from Sacramento, CA to Allegany, NY, less than an hour from Jamestown, I think. Small world. Quote Selected
84 5.0 elan 65000 original miles Reply #6 – October 29, 2011, 06:34:00 PM It is something that I would have to pay someone else to fix. I'm moving in two months and to focus all of my time and money on those preparations. I would be inclined to get it repaired if it would return that investment pretty quickly of course.
