base fuel pressure question

My base fuel pressure, vac line unhooked and plugged, is 45lbs.  That seems kinda high.  Should I get an adjustable FPR and bring it down to 39-40lbs.

It seems like it is kinda loading up at idle and low rpms, but could be my imagination.  It does smell rich, but I have no cats on it ????????:D

Most of my other Mustangs we set at around 40 lbs.

Seems a bit high but it's near spec (40 psi). Do you have the stock regulator or an adjustable one?

Sometimes you will get them this high. Its ok actually because injector flow is based on 43.5 PSI

If your injectors are 19 LBS @ 40 PSI (stock) and you are running 45 LBS of pressure your new flow rate will be 20.15

A stock computer will also compensate for the higher pressure using your O2's. Shouldn't be a problem.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Yep. The EEC automatically tunes any increase in fuel pressure out. I'm running 24s with the stock FPR no problem.

TO a certain point.  42 pound injectors would be a problem.  36's would be as well....

Right now it is a stock FPR with 14'lb injectors.

I was wondering if 5lbs of pressure was too much for the comp to compensate.  Sounds like its not.

To the best of my knowledge Ford injectors for a port system are rated at 39psi, other mfgrs and aftermarket do use different pressure ratings... At 45psi you are no doubt on the edge of what the computer can compensate...

What did the pressure read with the vac line on the regulator???

What kinda of mileage are you getting out of it, 5.0?

I have swapped out the fpr around 200k and things felt better and reved quicker. Didn't change the performance of gas mileage. The diaphram could be ripped or something letting pressure get high.

Adjusting a 14 pound injector from 39 PSI to 45 PSI would effectively make it act as a 14.65 pound injector.  The EEC- will compensate when needed by adjusting pulse width....

Thanks guys, just wondering if the computer could adjust enough at idle.  Overly  rich smell.

Are you sure it's not in constant open loop/FMEM and it is in fact reading the o2 sensors?

Also, are all emissions components in place?
