piston hole?

What is the round hole for? There from a 91 HO engine.

Usually an orientation mark showing  which way to install the piston  IE:  hole,notch  goes toward the front ,,, however I have never seen a circle like that myself

It designates FRONT. Their are all kinds of markings in different engines. Why Ford did it this way i have NO CLUE.

Yeah, I thought maybe but I've never noticed it on the other SO's I've had. So that should be to the front then rite?

Can anyone identify the long slot in this piston?? And what it DOES??  On this photo posted by hypostang??

I am guessing some type of oil drain for oil cooling?
