Trying another...as you can tell, the engine bay needs some major help. As little time as I am finding, by the time I finish, I will need to start over again.    :disappoin

CFI,, not sure what the confussion is here.

anyway,,
id like to know how to remove this thingy... mine chatters like all getout and there is not vac hooked to it at all.  I think i have to remove the intake and bang the shiznit out of it to make it pop out the bottom side.

btw,, darn good looking body on that coug,, do the pics lie or is it really that straight and nice on the outside.

Body is very straight. Only rust is under trunk lid (replacing it as soon as I get my 88 parts car). The front fenders are rippled along the top from someone's elbows leaning all over it to work on it, or at least looks that way. I'm still debating replacing these as I haven't done body work on a car since high school (many years ago...)  :D

I live in Jeffersonville, three miles from Louisville, KY.

Interior is also good. Light wear on seat bolsters, but everything else is pretty nice. I hate the blue though, too flashy. I may go all black interior once I'm ready to refinish the inside.

jcassity...the 'thingy' on mine has two bolts that hold it on from the top. Are you sure this is what is clanging? My fuel injectors TICK like crazy, drives me nuts. Anyone know if this is normal? With the windows up and radio off, that is all you can hear from the motor.

jcassity- all you do is go out and buy an egr blockoff kit for that i do believe that is the egr selonoid take that off and replace with a special plate

It's Gumby's fault.

the injectors do chatter,, not unusual

that thing a ma jig is a exhaust heat control valve.
double check and make sure that isnt the chatter your hearing instead of the injectors.

as for the injectors,,, pull the screens out and chuck em.
pull that cfi off as soon as you can and get rid of the carbon build up on the bottom of it.

Positive it is the injectors. It is very obvious when you take everything out of the way. I can feel them pulsing if I put my finger on them (gotta be careful with words here, someone's lurking and waiting to jump on this one  :rollin: )

Not sure about pulling the CFI unit...this is my daily driver and I'm not exactly a mechanic. Gotta work into this thing slow to make sure I don't screw something up. I'm learning as I go and making progress, but not that confident yet. I always HATED working on cars before, now starting to enjoy. I haven't found another at the local yards to 'play' with yet. Still looking.

I am actually surprised that with 167,000+ miles, the block, valve cover area, and top of the intake look pretty clean. No obvious signs of leaks, etc. The idle is driving me crazy though, and still smells like it is running rich, or has a gas leak. Can't figure it out.
