making some headway in getting it disassembled.. putting the rest of the headers on hold until the motor is slid back.. thinking about setting it up to use fox mustang mounts this time around, but we'll see how a stock pair from the junkyard work out, before i buy a decent set of aftermarket mounts.. i need to pull the motor first and get a rear sump pan back on it and start the new crossmember and rack mounts first.. while the motor's out, i'll also be modifying the firewall a bit, so i can slip the motor back a little more and still be able to get the driver side head off, without pulling the motor forward.. 'just in case' lol.. then the motor goes for a trip to the machine shop again, to get dipped and also having the heads decked for a compression bump

got a little bit done today.. ripped out all the steering and swaybar.. now i can run a normal size oil filter, since i'm putting a mustang rack in it.. i may start on that tomorrow, we'll see.. i'd like to do the 5 lug swap on my tc tomorrow, since it's going to be nice and the car is sitting on blocks

got the top end torn down.. heads are going to the machine shop in the morning for decking and a quick swim in the hot tank.. going to make a pair of mock up mounts tomorrow, with slotted holes, so i can slide it back and forth until i find the sweet spot.. then i'll start on the new crossmember

well, i wasn't much in the mood to play with steel today, so i took the route everyone hates.. tackling wiring.. i got most of the passenger side OE harness trimmed down and shortened, as well as finding certain things a new home.. i re-ran, trimmed down and hid the HVAC and turn signal relays on the side of the firewall, where they'll be hidden behind the fender.. i also popped the blower motor out of the heater box (which is under the hood >:L ) and drilled new holes, so that the plug is on the left side (closest to the fender) instead of on top.. the only thing left to do is trim down the ground wires and ground them where the relays are, instead of under the hood, on the firewall.. tomorrow i'll handle the driverside wiring, which is going to involve pulling the fuse panel, so i can repurpose the ECM fuse slots.. as wall as start hacking into the dash wiring to ditch anything that's not being used or not needed.. this includes the stock cluster and and such, since she'll be rocking new gauges come spring ;)

i can't sleep, so what better time to make a rant/list of things to do, so i can TRY staying focused..

first, the ranting.. GM really sucks at wiring.. i'm seriously about to gut the  truck of all it's wiring and start fresh.. i started pulling the dash apart to try tracking down the neutral safety wires, so i could set the switch on the shifter up.. talk about a PITFA! my wiring diagrams are ZERO help with this  thing, as far as the wiring goes.. i'm seriously contemplating my own harness, using the OEM fuse panel.. i'll give it some serious thought when i'm not running on lack of sleep, we'll see..

ok, list!

- finish passenger side wiring
- build new motor mounts (already made measurements to avoid making 'mock up mounts')
- pull motor/trans
- build new, removable engine crossmember
- build new trans crossmember
- build custom steering shaft to work with mustang rack
- remove everything from firewall/front frame clip
- some slight firewall tpuppies, mostly for appearance
- smooth frame out, remove un-needed things
- degrease firewall, frame and suspension parts, powerwash and spray with primer
- spray frame with rustoleum silver hammertone
- spray firewall duplicolor 'deep blue'
- clear everything
- put the crossmember and suspension back under it, load it on the trailer and drag it back to delaware, where it can go BACK in the garage so the rest of the truck can get taken care of, while i handle the motor here

list of things to do when it goes back in the garage -

- strip interior, remount shifter further back (has 60/40 bench seat now, so when it's in park, the handle is practically touching the dash) and build center console out of aluminum.. josh will handle wrapping it in fiberglass, so he can get it how he wants it
- pull bed, ditch stock gastank, pull rear and start narrowing the frame
- roll explorer rear under, start setting up 4 link and coilovers
- mount fuel cell and finish up fuel lines for mockup
- pull everything back out, paint frame and rear, powdercoat 4 link and cut bed for wheel tubs
- start body work on bed, including the shaved tailgate/rollpan and frenched tagbox
- spray everything blue and gently bolt it back together
- lay out graphics, mask off and spray silver
- pull everything back off and lay 1st 2 coats of clear with pearl
- wet sand with 1500 and lay final layer of clear
- bolt motor and trans back in while everything is still apart, measure for new driveshaft
- start bolting everything back in, put driveshaft in when i get the call that it's done
- fire it up, break the new cam in, make proper adjustments
- kill the streets!

i know i'm missing a few steps, but that'll give you the jist of what needs to be done.. i don't think my white tc is getting very much attention this winter.. definitely need to do the ranger cam and 5 lug swap done next week so i can put it on the road

i think it's a little too wide.. LOL i'm not using the outter tie rods though, just the inners.. they're the perfect length to run 2 5/8" steel female heim ends.. just ordered a couple, along with all the male ends i need for the triangulated 4 link.. good news is, with this setup and a little frame cutting/plating, i will be able to run my oil cooler and 90* filter relocater with zero issues.. BYE BYE trashy GM steering :)

and now, for everyone's favorite part.. WIRING!! :barf: i started weeding out all the air bag, heat/AC harness, factory ECU and radio harnesses.. NOT fun

the last of the under-dash ECU harness

turn signal relay harness weeded out of the ECU mess.. all wrapped up and ready to go back in already

the biggest headache is yet to come! the main harness

looks funny/retarded, but it served it's purpose.. put some 1-7/16" tubing between the heads and block to simulate the deck height (a little taller, actually) of the 408.. it's actually going to fit with the stock booster

i really need to bring more tools home from the shop.. including jackstands.. LOL.. all mocked up, just need to do a little more welding and i will be able to bolt the rack up.. the tie rods need to be trimmed a bit, but i expected that.. the 2nd to last pic is the start of the storage setup i'm building in the bed.. the compartment came out of my buddy's durango when he put a 3rd row seat in.. needs a little tpuppies to sit level, but it'll work out decent i suppose.. basically going to cap it with sheet metal, pull off the upholstery and paint it.. the last pic is the gas filler cap i'll be using.. it came off a boat i cut up lol it was too pretty to toss in the s pile.. it'll get mounted just to the left of where the compartment sits.. i'll have to make a little hump for it to clear the compartment, as it'll have to cut under it to get to the top of the fuel cell.. hopefully i'll be starting on the cell soon, too.. i really need to get the motor to the shop and get it torn apart.. i'm severely slacking on that aspect lol
