Nahhh not a dunce  . I actually had a C7ZZ  plate on my 67  Mustang for 6 years that I owned it and only 1 person I ever encountered new what it meant .

I saw a 68 Mustang GT Fastback at a show with plates that said, "C8ZZ GT". My wife asked me what it meant, so I explained it to her. I actually thought it was pretty cool.

A long time ago I thought about that!

E4SZ is my 1984 Bird

E8WY is anyone's 88 Cougar...

E= decade 1980's

4= year in decade

S= Thunderbird

Z = Ford

W= Cougar

Y= Mercury

Ford has made some changes to part number structure since 1999.

The first digit is the year which now matches the 8th digit of a VIN number.

The second and third digits now indicate the model line.

The 4th digit is the make of the vehicle or assigment of production responsibility.

So my 08 Mustang is a 8R3Z

8=2008
R3= Mustang
Z= Ford
