My 86 Cougar

Hi All

My first post obviously as you will be able to tell by my lack of proper cougar language.

I bought an 86 just days ago and when pulling up to places I have people asking me if I want to sell the car. Is there something I am missing or is it just because of the look of this car?

I'm not sure if I will stay a newbie and eventually move up the chain to real cougar enthusiast or if I will enjoy the car till it is time to move on, but I know I will have some questions, so thanks in advance for any help.

Hey welcome!  I am in Las Vegas also and watched that car on Craigslist for quite some time.  Congrats on the purchase!

Hi Loaded

Thanks. Guess I paid too much LOL (Story of my life). Actually if I do get into the cougar hobby it looks like I did OK. I'm used to driving German cars for far more money, but I can see why people get into these particular autos. Their very classic and clean. I'm looking forward to learning more.

It doesn't look like it would take too much to get my ride in good shape. A little inside stuff, the engine cleaned (it's not that dirty), and find out what the coolant system is doing. That pressure relief valve is leaking a little. These engines seem to be very strong as I have noticed.

If all goes well should be a nice Vegas ride.

Looks good.  Welcome and I hope you enjoy your car.  Another benefit is that they're on the Ford Fox platform and a huge amount of Mustang parts are interchangeable from 80's through 2004.  Makes for cheap upgrades.

Hi X

When I got in tonight I read a little about the Ford Fox Platform (thanks to your post). Pretty interesting, as it sounds like this move by Ford helped the company in many ways.

Welcome, hang around awhile, you'll like it here.

I used to have your year of cougar, great lines and style.  I have a 88' now.

Hi Mike

It's always cool to hang out with nice people who are into what they have or do. My business runs the same way and is also a forum (forums). It's not related to cars (audio enthusiast) but the same excitement happens with people who have a passion for life. The cars up here that I've looked at are very impressive. I wonder if these cars make their way to some of the big weekends like the ones in Detroit. While doing a VH1 special I hung out at the show that they host in Pontiac Mi. I could not believe how many cool cars were there to explore. It's a great example of American pride for sure.

Hi Folks

Hope all of you are having fun and getting your cars on the road.

Today was my very first cat day and I have to say that there's a sense of history when starting to work on these toys. Today we started to clean my cat. Not that it was so dirty but there's nothing like a clean up to tell you what you have.

Thanks to the car cleaning crew of "Aurelio's" I was able to see what the next steps to take are. As I've mentioned before, and have had many this past week tell me "these autos have great lines". Now that there is nothing quite like them they have a way of standing out without over-powering the road. A friend heard about this adventure of mine and was ready to pick on me about my blue flames until she got out of her brand new Charger (very nice) and saw the cat. "how cool" was her first comment, next was "let's cruise the strip". There's no higher compliment than "let's cruise the strip" when your strip happens to be the Las Vegas Strip.

There's much to do to my Cougar I'm sure but today my first Cat Day was a blast.

Bored yet??

Just looking at all the cars on the forum is inspiration! Maybe when I grow up mine will be too.
