They always come with dread rodents

Every time! theres always gotta be one in every used car.

Picked up this 84 XR7 tonight, figured since I always miss on the TC's around here I better grab this one while it was available, got it for $600 so I dont think I did too bad, body looks much better in the pics, lots of spot rust repairs around it and over all fading. Interior and trunk are in really nice condition though, dosent appear to have been smoked in more than a couple times.

The back half of the exhaust is flex pipe, and the clutch slips (couldn't even test out the trac-loc :punchballs:) but I think the cable is too tight, how much free play should I have at the petal? I currently have none at all. It runs okay but doesnt seem to have the power it should on the bottom end. Might need front wheel bearings aswell, will have to get it in the air this weekend and go through it all.

I have an afr gauge and boost gauge I'm gonna steal from my sprint for a while and gonna get a temp gauge for it so I know whats going on. How much boost is okay to run on these engines, 10 psi is stock right? What diameter IC charge piping? How much exhaust do these engines like 2.5"-3.0"? I know my 1.0L liked a 2.25" straight pipe.

Sorry for all the questions, I've been searching around but all the info I find seems to center around the 'good' turbo engines like the 87-88 TC's and SVO's I gotta make do with this old beaster :hick:

When I bought the Sport from the salvage yard,it was so bad inside and under the hood, rodents wouldn't even be seen around it.

I hate that mice tend to make heater core housings their own personal bathroom...ughh.

Not a bad car at all, either, and welcome back!

My wife's 65 fury came with a live one. It lost a game of double-dutch with the blower blades (thonk!- Decapitated).

3" is good for the exhaust.

Boostwise, it's an 84, so it has the smaller injectors.  You won't want to go too much higher than the 10-11# stock boost.  The 84 SVO used the small injectors and ran 15# boost, but that was on the ragged edge of things, even with the intercooler.  So you can use that as an upper limit.

The engine itself is the same as the 87-88TC's and the SVOs.  It's just all the stuff attached to it that's different.

Thanks chuck, so with a new exhaust, brown tops, and an IC it should be pretty happy with 15 then?

Have the car up on ramps so I can check everything out this morning. Cleaned the maf meter and throttle body, cleaned and adjusted the cap and rotor, tightened up the plug wires, and had a look at the clutch cable and pieces at the trans... went to start it back up, pressed in the clutch and *pop*....

Check the drivetrain tech for my woes..

So diggin through my garage I found a pile of left over parts from my 86 TC. I have the air box, maf, k&n, upper and lower intake, Valve cover, trans/bellhousing and some other odds and ends, also found the Marchalls and brackets to go with the bumper cover in the rafters, will the 86 tc cover fit on the 84 xr7 inner bumper? I think I trew out the tc inner and my cougar could use some extra night lighting.

Worst thing i've encountered in the t-bird so far is SPIDERS.
But our old Caravan seemed to attract Wasps, And had rodent droppings on the intake mani~Never did come accross anything though.
And Dad's Volvo is a haven for stray cats during winter. :rollin:
Nothing seems to bother the Aerostar though now that i think about it... Except maybe birds. :shakeass:

Just an update, been cleanin up the outside a bit, trying to cover the nasty bits. Got the horrible stripe off the bumpers and sides, blacked out the side window trim and mirrors, headlight bezels, and grill. Sprayed the 'deluxe' rubber wheels down with some krylon chrome paint and put the two remaining trim rings on the drivers side. Still gotta paint out the whitewall on the rear tires, and do the front and rear window trim. The weather was too wet to paint today.

Made up a temporary exhaust to get me through, 2.5" glass pack off the head pipe then out in front of the drivers rear tire. The turbo sounds awesome :D  I also welded a 1" piece of 1X2 steel to the clutch petal so I can shift in my work boots now without hurting myself :hick:
