Any autobody techs in here? Reply #9 – March 09, 2010, 12:42:25 AM All of the shops I have worked at, the pay is kinda of commissioned based. Yea the company might agree to pay you however much per hour, but that is just a small reflection of the payscale. With ever vehicle repair you are given a certain amount of time to complete the repair. And that is all you get paid for(whatever the estimate was).So in other words if the shop foreman says the repair should take five hours you get paid for five hours no matter how long (or quickly) it actually takes you.So if your good at body work and are quick at it and good at multitasking you can make good money, but if you are slow then your going to starve.Make sense? Hope this helps some. These are just my opinions from my experience. You should defiantly look at the shops turn over rate, if they can't keep techs there is probably a good reason for it. Either they don't have enough customers going through the shop or the foreman quotes unreasonable estimates that the techs just can't keep up with. Quote Selected
