Bolts engine and otherwise

Hi everyone:

Now I have a question. Where can you get new unused bolts for your Fox ride,without going broke?  I went down to Green the other day they had some I needed but not all. PartsVoice lead me to another source but same problem.. Talked to one or two of these part search houses that consult, I think the supplier pays them, no dice.

Went to a manufacturer of bolts no problem $40.00 a bolt  :bs:  :mad:

Guess I'll go to a desert junkyard..help..

Home Depot or any other hardware store. Just have your old bolts to compare so you get the right ones.

Do they have those stupid double-ended, hex-in-the-middle, different-length and different-size-threads-on-each-end studs for the water pump and accessory brackets? Ford seems to loooooove using them wherever they can.  :mad:

I know exactly what you mean. If you look hard enough , you may find them. You may only have to go to 3 or 7 different places :crazy: I needed 3 different types of bolts and hit 5 different stores before I found them all.

Umm, there's a number of bolts or things that look like bolts that you just don't get at Home Despot or I wouldn't, like the ones that hold your rims to the axle.
Even if you can get a bolt at a local auto parts store it might show up as being the right bolt but it's shorter than the original or horror of horrors its got a clip not threads.

Over time as I upkeep, modify, restore my Fox I want to keep it as true to it's legacy as I can. I've owned it since the beginning and I intend to keep it into historic status.

That's why I said to have your original with you and if it doesn't match up, don't buy it.

I'm glad to see that you take as much pride in your car as you do. Not too many people here are the original owners of their cars. You did not specify what type of bolts etc. The majority of the bolts, screws, studs, nuts, are pretty generic and can be bought at the hardware store. There are some exceptions that you will have to dish out more money to get the correct things. You can't get everything at the hardware/ auto parts places, but a good part of them, you can.

Ok, maybe my point is weak but what about MasterBlasters example. His example, it's true for my Fox as well.
 Bolts I think are an issue, granted hardware stores, auto outlets, Junkyards can be taken advantage of to get your car back on the road.

I'm interested in taking my Fox to another level. It's not my primary transportation, never was. Now that I'm in the 20-30 year zone I want to think ahead. If you can't find after market or factory bolts and other parts now, You'l surely pay a premium to buy them when it goes historic.

What would you do in my situation? You're on your way to your 30th and you want to do some special things for a 30th? You'll want to show off your ride then for sure!

Here is a link to a Ford dealer in my area. They have a large warehouse of parts. I had to go here to get a replacement long bolt for my cobra intake because I couldn't find one anywhere. It is a Ford dealer so being the manufacturer and so on so prices are probably not that great. The one bolt cost me around $10. But if there is something specific that you need and can't find a suitible replacement, they may be worth a shot.

I'm with you on the new bolts. It's best to put all new ones in rather than get some off junk cars. So are you going to start restoring the car now or are you trying to collect all of the pieces you need and will be doing this a few years down the road?

A little bit of both. I have some mechanical and body issues I'm addressing now. I pulled the doors and fenders off striped em down, fixed, rustproofed
rehung and adjusted them. When I get the mechanical issues done I'll document it and send it for new paint. :rollin: Yeh I'll be happy then.

On the 30th aniversery of the car I'm, going to pull the drive train and soup the car up. Until then, I'm going to collect all the necessary parts to do so.

Guess that just about covers it.
