my 1988 cougar XR7 got broke into Reply #9 – February 14, 2010, 12:34:21 PM Sorry to hear that, thieves are real low life pieces of sh*t. And usually drug addicts too, at least the guy that stole my motorcycle was.Is there any pics of the damage? Quote Selected
my 1988 cougar XR7 got broke into Reply #10 – February 14, 2010, 12:42:02 PM Must be U.S. only,up here we have a cap of 1500 dollars for compremensive and 1500 for theft regardless. So if my car gets broken into, i have 1500 for damages and if anything gets stolen i have 1500 for that.My $300 deductable is taken off of one of those not both.I don't have anything appraised or told to my insurance. If anything like that happens out here your rates do not increase either. They only do if you get in an accident that is deemed your fault.Guess it sucks to have insurance in the states. If a $100 radio gets stolen, you get $100. But what if what you have is worth more than $1500? If a $3000 system gets stolen you only get $1500. I would hope there is a plan where you can add additional coverage for expensive items. That's where the declaring comes in. If you say "I have a $4000 stereo, and I'd like coverage". The USA insurance companies say, "fine, but you have to prove you have it (reciepts, pictures, etc)". Then you pay for your additional coverage and hope you never need it.When my cougar got burglarized back in 1997, I had comprehensive coverage on it. It was like $8 more a month above standard liability. But I got $2800 for my stereo and vandalism repairs (since I had all reciepts).Rates do not increase for comprehensive claims, only at-fault collisions. So USA insurance isn't all bad... Just our standard liability coverage "keeps you legal" and doesn't cover hardly anything of your own (just the damage you cause others). Quote Selected

my 1988 cougar XR7 got broke into Reply #14 – February 15, 2010, 03:47:35 PM Down here if you can show you've added say $10,000 in stereo gear to a car, you can insure it and get that much back. Your rates will be higher depending on how much equipment, whether the car is garaged, crime rate where you live and commute to, etc..... Quote Selected
