'92 Bronco Project

it's a 4wd Eddie Bauer. pretty clean inside and out, except it was a flood car from Ike. 351w is locked up. only paid $300 for it, so i figured i would get it running and sell it, or i may just keep it. depends how much money ill put into it. also has a CLEAN blue title. guess nothing was reported to the Ins company.





starting the teardown:





spent a couple of hours to get it this far. tomorrow the motor will be out so I can inspect the cylinders. I tried again today to turn the motor over with a breaker bar with a long piece of rollbar tubing, but no dice.

and its amazing that it takes 2 hours of labor, before you see the actual motor. LOL!

HOLY !!! 300 bucks!! Ill trade you my durango for it! I dont like  dodges!

I welcomed the dark side and currently am driving a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT plus, with a 5.9, Code named project "Night Runner"
Shes black on black, fully loaded, with headers, 180 tstat, e fan, straight exhaust into a cherry bomb vortex ler, full tune up, ported intake and T/B, MSD coil, and round aircleaner.
Mods to come: Fully rebuilt and heavily modded 46RE, and a richmond rachet locker.

With it being a flood vehicle, once you get it running you might want to think about pulling up the carpet to make sure it's dry under there. The body looks great on it, I'd have to get it running and keep it.

Not bad, for 300 bucks, you can't go wrong. Good market for some parts if you decide to tear it apart.

Makes me wonder if someone just got the water out of the cylinders, but didn't change the oil, and ruined the bearings in the bottom...?

I second pulling the carpet up, and was the eec under the water level? (driver's side kick panel)

Should be the E4OD tranny...

, I'd love to find something like that to fix up...I alsways did have a soft spot for Broncos...

the guy I got it from drained and refilled all the fluids. he pulled the spark plugs and turned it over. it blew a little water out, but then he never put the plugs back in and it sat that way for over a year. I think if he had put the  plugs back in the motor may have still spun over today. oh well. the carpet and interior is dry. I haven't really inspected anything but the motor. I don't even know if the trans is good. (it is an E4OD) I won't worry about other things until I get a good motor in it first. all the lights work, ac fan motor comes on, fuel pump primes when you turn the key, and the starter engages(but won't rotate the motor obviously). it's also new, along with the battery. it was too good of a deal to pass up even if I have to replace the wiring harness, motor, trans and whatever else. I know these things sell for around $3,000 in good running condition.

I had a nice 89 that had the 302 a few years back. I loved the way it rode. I bought it off an old man for $800, and it was like new. I had a low paying job at the time, and it only got like 9mpg, so I sold it, heh. But I still have a soft spot for them. Especially when I see a nice rust-free one. Always check the tailgates for rust at the bottom. The window seals go bad and the door collects water.

hahaha that it does not, but I got it for 300, but it was totaled. I finally took all the advice you guys gave me, let it sink in, took my time and did everything the right way to first time with all new parts, and in the end its a nice SUV, but the 5.9 is gonna get me in trouble haha

Are you soaking the cylinders with PB Blaster, or even better SeaFoam Deep Creep? I get the stuff at NAPA, a little pricey at $9 a bottle but it's pretty potent.

2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

1988 Black XR7 Procharger P600B intercooled, Edelbrock Performer non-RPM heads, GT40 intake AOD, 13 PSI @5000 RPM. 93 octane

i sprayed some WD40 through the spark plug holes the other day, but it wouldnt have helped. got the motor out tonight, and 2 cylinders are filled with what looks like sand and whatever else the water had in it. the other 6 cylinders look fine. all the valves are rusty looking, so ill probably find another set of good E7's to put back on. since the motor was locked up, we couldnt get the converter off. ill try to get the motor loose tomorrow, so i can get it off. i have a lead on another 351w shortblock for $200, so i may go check it out. it was an absolute PAIN to get that mofookie out tonight....

Haha wow cool. Still clearly made a lot of progress though, I'd have been trying to avoid pulling the motor. :rollin: Sounds like you've got the resources you need to get it all set in no time, even if it means swapping the engine entirely.

I  have always loved the OJ'S...lol is what we call that model bronco in dc.

OJ = OJ Simpson.....lol
86 TC.......Intake, fmic ,bov ,pillar gauges......more to come
