The camaro's base 6cyl buts out 300 ponies already, ford had to do something to match it.
Yeah but 300 hp V6 in a mustang > 300hp in a camaro BUT, i hate the camaro so im bias.

That's my fear.  Could be worse though.......Could be a New Edge :rollin:

That's true but we SN95s have our owe RHSC, the 96-98 OR the 94-95 depending on how you look at it. The 05-2010 will fill that spot for the S197s. Its just natural progression though.

it's not always about speed. Style and ride count for a lot,
Style and ride count for the majority id say. I mean, yeah if the stang was brutally slow that would not be a good thing but the nature of these cars and the aftermarket really make speed and power a moot point to some degree.

I disagree. When the S197's came out they were recieved VERY well by not only car enthusiast but the buying public in general. I think in 30 yrs people are going to be "retro modding" their 2005 Mustangs and dropping in modern motors just like they are now with muscle cars. I think the '99-04 cars will be the ones to fall off the radar more so than the '05-up.
Thats definitely fair, and probably accurate. Fortunately, with the fox, SN95 and S-197 being so different they will all have a decent following. Who know what will even be left of the hobby 30 years from now.

i think say, in 10 years from now, if the 11 up stang is as good as it sounds its going to put the 05-10 in the same place the 94-95 SN95 is currently.

So now we're basically screwed on keeping up with everything else on the road unless we build up an aftermarket engine block or modular swap. Lovely.

I can still out run V6 family sedans and such;). Not new Mustangs or Camaro's though......

Thought I'd dredge this up based on auto show info.

http://media.ford.com/mini_sites/10031/2011Mustang/

Some good reading on the v6 and 5.0L.  412 hp, with the Brembo brake option.  I've heard Ford and Shelby are parting ways, so I'm wondering if the GT will be the top of the line?

My other worry is the base model is getting such a new high tech engine and other technological advancements.  Will it now start at $25k?  If so, they're screwing up.  The $21k base was a good start.

I just bought a copy of 5.0 magazine and they have a great technical read on the new modular 5.0.  Its gonna be a spy ass car.  7k redline, 400+ hp on 91 octane, around 11:1 compression, 6 speed trans, etc.  The way the engineered the motor it will still be cost effective by using much of the manufacturing processes of the current 4.6.

From what I gather, the GT will still be the entry level V8 and there will still be some sort of special edition type cars (ie: boss, cobra, etc).  I had not heard that Shelby was parting ways with Ford.  I don't think this is true...below is a link to the '11 Shelby GT350.

Thanks for clearing up the '11 shelby thing.  Here's an article on pricing.

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/18/2011-ford-mustang-pricing-to-start-from-22-995/

I think the GT starting at $30k is a huge mistake.  Base pricing at $23k is a bit ridiculous, too.

It's been 6 model years and they added 100+ horsepower respectively to both engines as well as other upgrades over the years.

Still quite the bargain for the performance you get.  Nobody's said anything yet, but this puts the 370Z/G37 quite far behind as far as the bang for the buck area is concerned.  There's talk of a hybrid engine as an option in place of the 330 HP mill, but I would imagine that comes in at even MORE of a premium.  The Nismo tuned version is 39K for the 2010 MY.  Still has less torque than the 4.6 3V.....

I agree with that, but it's appeal to the masses was because of its price.  And by sheer volumes it's the king of the pony car hill.  They're going to lose the lower end buyer.  Especially with this economy.

Here's a pricing sheet.

I've seen the videos and pricing sheet as well.  Honestly, I don't believe they'll lose the low end buyer.  Compared to 2009 (AND 2010), the markups are really minimal.

Heck, a convertible 2010 with an auto trans and leather was on the lot near me a while back.

Price?

Upwards of $40K.

I think you'll see a few more stripped down versions roaming around, but overall sales point and profit will remain IMHO.  The only reason I went stripped down was for weight.  It's VERY rare to see a '05-'09 GT with the base interior package and cloth seats.  Out of all the ones I've seen I might be one of 5....

You may be right.  It was bugging me that you could get into a coupe for $20k in 2005 and a GT for around $25k.  6 years later, they're starting at $23k and $30K.  The $30k is a bit steep to start for a GT, but the base is going to be such a kickin' ride, I think the base will just cannibalize a bunch of GT volume

Six years ago you could also buy a gallon of gas for well under two bucks. Times have changed. Besides, you might pay more for a 2011 GT compared to a 2005, but you're getting much more car for your money. And it's still cheaper than a Camaro SS :hick:

I agree that the base is certainly gonna cannibalize GT sales, though. Hell, I'd even consider a V6 Mustang now. Only briefly, of course, but the fact that the consideration even arises speakes volumes for the 2011's...

Ironically, gas prices are about the same as in 2005.

Everyone keeps saying getting more for your money, but that doesn't matter for those whom the price just increased out of their range.  That's just a flat loss of sales.  Sure the people that were already going to buy one will be happier, but their increase in happiness does not produce an increase in sales volumes.

Things have changed a lot in the automobile world in a short time.  With the way the government is pushing better emissions, etc., you can expect all cars to take a price hike.  A increase in price on the Mustang doesn't make much difference if all of the competition takes a price increase too.
