Look at the difference between auto and manual fusions. Supposedly the auto gets 34 hwy while the manual only manages 31? Gearing?

My wife has a 2010 Fusion Sport.  I can't say I really like the 6 speed.  It seems like it shifts too much, but I guess when you are used to 4 gears, 6 gears are going to shift more.  However it has been knocking down mpg's in the low 30's with her driving.  Plus for a 4 dr sedan its pretty fast.  I think motortrend showed quarter mile in the mid 15's.  It needs the ecoboost motor now

Ah yes... The real SHO.... A mid sized family car with power. I love the Fusions, I just think they wear the wrong name plate.

my '07 GT only is rated at 300hp...but torque is what makes the wheels go 'round.

I once read that HP determines how fast you hit the wall, but torque determines how far the wall moves after you hit it.

we couldn't let a piece of chevy beat us. lol.

Too funny. When my daughter was in grade school, I asked her about someone's car and she said it was a piece of Chevy. That's when I told my wife I better watch what I say around the kids. They were starting to pick up my phrases.

Variable Exhaust / Intake Cam Timing and Direct Injection with good flowling cylinder heads are really waking up the Ford Engines. The V8 will be a beast. I would expect at least 400+ HP and 400+ lb-ft Torque.

I just think its crazy that the previous generation (99-04) Mustang GT 4.6 2v had what, 260hp? And now the V6 model is going to be sporting over 300! Hell the '04 Mach 1's had about 305 hp (I'm sure they are more potent than this V6 due to more torque). Its crazy how things are progressing. Its like 1969 all over again sometimes.

I had a thought earlier today while I had my Mustang out.  I changed the oil and took it for a drive......
My thought was:
How many 1996 Corvettes do you see running around all modded up nowadays?  NONE.  Remember when they came out?  330 HP stock.  Unheard of at the time for a relatively inexpensive non-supercar.  It actually took a good deal of tweaking to get 100 HP more to the tire out of them.....
I remember seeing them fairly regularly when they were within their first few years.  Body kits, hoods, exhaust systems,  blowers, etc.....

Now look at the latest ones.  100 more ponies out of the box and a simple cam swap with the hefty breathing heads that they come with will net about 65-70 more while not killing torque.  The mid '90s Vettes have become sort of a step-child; much like our beloved Cougarbirds.  The difference being of course that at least the Cougarbirds have a distinct appearance.  The basic look of the Corvette has remained unchanged since 1984 albeit with slight updates.........they are REALLY cut off.

I really hope the 05-09 cars do not become the next mid '90's Corvette.

Not really. Even with a 100+ horsepower defecit the Mustang isn't that much slower than the Camaro SS. The comparison tests I've read actually placed the Mustang ahead of the Camaro even though it was slower. As the 4th gen shows, it's not always about speed. Style and ride count for a lot, and a lot of people don't like the looks of the new Camaro. It's too brutal for some (myself included).

Now, thankfully, Ford is not going to rest on its laurels and sell a stylish but underpowered Mustang(only when compared to the Camaro - nobody was complaining the Mustang was underpowered last year...). They're finally giving the car a healthy dose of both. Now if only they'd done that with the fox T-Birds and Cougars :hick:

I disagree.  When the S197's came out they were recieved VERY well by not only car enthusiast but the buying public in general.  I think in 30 yrs people are going to be "retro modding" their 2005 Mustangs and dropping in modern motors just like they are now with muscle cars.  I think the '99-04 cars will be the ones to fall off the radar more so than the '05-up.

Mid-90's Vettes (save the ZR1) were pretty plain jane even then.  Hell the Camaro/Firebird was more interesting IMO.

SOME people were.  Especially when GM was still producing the GTO.  Problem is the 300HP Mustang flat out bested the 350HP LS1 version of the GTO in stock trim in the 1/4 mile.  Hence the 400HP version the very next year.  Didn't make it much faster though.

So now we're basically screwed on keeping up with everything else on the road unless we build up an aftermarket engine block or modular swap. Lovely.
