Pre-1985 factory stereo

I am looking for a dual-shaft stock stereo for my 82.  I don't care if it's a cassette player or just a standard am.  It doesn't even need to work, as long as it will fill the empty hole in my dash.  Keyword here is CHEAP.

If I can find it, I might still have the Panasonic HU (cassette w/ shafts) I used in my '80 for quite a few years before a major stereo upgrade.  It worked fine when I took it out.  Let me know if interested, and I'll see if I even have it, yet!

Why don't you just put a pocket in?

Here's a pic so you know what I'm talking about.

Probably because the hole is a rectangle and two circles, not one big rectangle.

^^Yep^^

Plus I plan on modifying the internals to act as little more than a switch to power on an amplifier.  I also plan on installing a 1/8" inch headphone jack to receive from a source, such as an mp3 player.  Modern sound options with vintage stock appearance.  If anyone else is interested in such a project, I will do a write-up when I get everything figured out.

bike70ride and backn9, I have aftermarket dual shaft radios lying around as well, but must be OEM.  Thanks anyway.

Oh you're no fun.

You haven't experienced the full 2-post stereo thing until you've put a cassette-to-MP3 adapter into an 8-track-to-cassette adapter, and THEN cranked up those awesome 7 watts of cracklin' power to get the full digital-to-buttstuffog conversion from your iPod.

Now THAT is...well, it's dumb, but it works for me.

NICE! I used to do something similar with the deck I described. Not quite as involved, but this WAS the early 90s...

Sony CarDiscman routed thru the cassette adapter. High end (as much as could be) line level converter for pre-amp signal to trunk mounted amp. :D

I also had the diskman in my cougar in the early 90s..... Good times.... At least until I hit a bump, or the air in the car got to cold and the laser lens would fog up. :hick:

Here are pics of both of em.  One is Cassette & AM/FM  the other is just AM/FM

The cassette unit still even plays cassettes.
